Therefore, in beauty contests and important national events, the ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress) competition or group ao dai performance is an indispensable part. This year, in the atmosphere of celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Hanoi (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024), the art program with the Hanoi Ao Dai Tourism Festival will be a highly anticipated and proud event for the people of Hanoi in particular and the whole country in general.

The ao dai has undergone a long journey of formation and development, constantly innovating and changing with different styles and materials, but above all, it still retains the values and cultural essence of Vietnamese women. It remains modest, delicate, and graceful, not overly revealing, yet still highlighting the beauty and soft curves of the female body with an air of elegance.
Seventy years ago, on October 10th (1954), the soldiers of Uncle Ho's army entered and took over the capital amidst the joyful welcome of tens of thousands of people. Female students in their finest attire, including flowing white ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress), waving flowers and flags in enthusiastic celebration, created an image that was truly inspiring. I still see those images in precious historical photographs today, and they are deeply moving and fill me with pride.

This year, the 2024 Ao Dai Festival will be a special occasion to recreate the 70-year historical journey of the Liberation of Hanoi, with the image of the Vietnamese Ao Dai as the central theme. The mass Ao Dai performance will be a highly anticipated event for the people of Hanoi and the whole country. Ao Dai performances or Ao Dai commemorative weeks during important events always fill me with pride and intense emotion.
This year's Ao Dai Carnival is special because it will feature a mass Ao Dai performance at Thang Long Imperial Citadel and a walking parade in Ao Dai attire, with a planned route starting from Doan Mon Square, Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center - Hoang Dieu - Hoang Van Thu - Doc Lap - Thang Long Imperial Citadel. These are historical landmarks, marking the many victories of our ancestors.
This year's festival features a cultural and artistic space where Hanoi artisans will perform traditional folk arts such as Quan Ho, Ca Tru, Chau Van, Xam, Bai Bong dance, Danh Bong dance, and Hau Dong rituals, combined with a traditional Ao Dai fashion show. Through this activity, the organizers hope to bring visitors new and unique experiences of the beauty of the Ao Dai in a traditional cultural and artistic setting. Alongside this is an Ao Dai photo exhibition with main themes including: the Ao Dai past and present in Vietnamese culture; the Ao Dai with international friends and tourists; the Ao Dai in tourism activities; suppliers of Ao Dai materials and accessories; traditional Ao Dai and modern creations; and famous Vietnamese Ao Dai brands and designers.
I absolutely love the lyrics in the song "A Glimpse of Homeland" by composers Tu Huy and Thanh Tung.
"How beautiful, my homeland gives me this magical garment."
Wherever you are... Paris, London, or in faraway lands
A glimpse of a traditional Vietnamese dress fluttering in the street.
You'll find the soul of our homeland there… my dear!”
No matter where you are, the image of the ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress) is the embodiment of our beloved homeland, Vietnam. The beauty of the ao dai is unlike that of any other country's attire; it is a unique and distinctly Vietnamese beauty.
