An argument broke out between Jose Mourinho and Okun Buruk after the Turkish Cup quarter-final match at Ulker Stadium Sukru Saracoglu. Mourinho unexpectedly grabbed Buruk's nose, causing the Galatasaray coach to fall to the ground in apparent pain.
Immediately, many Galatasaray players rushed to protect Buruk, creating a chaotic scene. The referee also showed Mourinho a red card.
This isn't the first time Mourinho has acted impulsively physically towards a colleague. In 2011, during the Spanish Super Cup, the Portuguese manager was also fined for poking Barcelona's assistant coach Tito Vilanova in the eye.
According to the Telegraph , the Turkish Football Federation will open an investigation. Mourinho faces the risk of a lengthy coaching ban.
The strained relationship between Mourinho and Buruk is nothing new, as the Fenerbahce manager filed a defamation lawsuit against Galatasaray last month. This stemmed from Galatasaray's accusation that Mourinho called Burk and his players "monkeys".
Returning to the German Cup quarter-finals, Fenerbahce had the home advantage but fell behind 2-0 to Galatasaray thanks to a brace from Victor Osimhen. All the home side could manage was a consolation goal scored by Sebastian Szymanski in injury time of the first half.
The defeat against Galatasaray early this morning (April 3rd) puts Fenerbahce at high risk of ending the season without any trophies. Prior to this, Mourinho's team had already been eliminated from the Europa League. In the league, Fenerbahce is also currently 6 points behind Galatasaray.
