While the job at Benfica isn't among the "super-powerful" destinations like Manchester United or Real Madrid, it's considered a crucial position in the summer coaching market. According to ESPN , a change on the coaching bench at Estadio da Luz is currently under discussion.

At the heart of this scenario lies Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese coach is expected to accept the offer to manage the Portuguese national team when Roberto Martinez's contract expires after the 2026 World Cup.

Jose Mourinho has never managed a national team; his entire career has been dedicated to club football. If Mourinho accepts the offer to become national team coach in the future, it would be a memorable milestone in his illustrious coaching career. Furthermore, he would be reunited with his former pupil, Cristiano Ronaldo, in the national team's colors.

Mourinho worked with Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013. Under Mourinho, Ronaldo was at the peak of his form, playing a major role in helping Real Madrid win La Liga in 2011/12 with 100 points and breaking many goalscoring records, marking one of the most brilliant periods of both their careers.

If Mourinho moves to international football, Benfica will have to find a successor this summer. The most promising candidate is Ruben Amorim. The 40-year-old strategist previously led Sporting CP to two national championships during his time at Estadio Jose Alvalade.

More importantly, Amorim has deep ties to Benfica, having played for the club for nine years and receiving considerable support from the team's policymakers.

The most widely considered scenario currently is Mourinho leaving Benfica to manage the Portuguese national team or returning to club football, with Amorim taking over as head coach at Estadio da Luz. This would be a significant turning point for both Benfica and the coaching transfer market this summer.
