Students are concentrating on studying in the library's reading room.
Stepping into the library, what impressed me most was the serious and orderly atmosphere of studying. Despite the sweltering summer heat, the reading room was cool and comfortable. Even when hundreds of students were gathered there, the atmosphere remained very quiet.
According to the report on the performance of the Reader Services Department from April to May 2026, thanks to maintaining full 7-day-a-week service, the library welcomed 1,614 in-person readers and served over 2,348 books and periodicals of various kinds. Not only limited to the traditional library space, interactive activities and communication on the unit's website and social media platforms also achieved 1,000 reach.
To achieve these results, from the beginning of summer, the Reader Services Department implemented many practical professional activities. The unit proactively coordinated the organization of a book exhibition space to commemorate the 136th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birth, and created a video introducing books with the theme "Learning from Uncle Ho Throughout Life," which attracted a large number of views and shares. The professional work of inventorying, organizing, and arranging documents in the reference archive was carried out scientifically , creating the most favorable conditions for readers to access information.
As June arrives and students officially begin their summer vacation, the need to find a safe and conducive environment for children to learn, play, and socialize becomes a top priority for parents. In this context, the Provincial Library has implemented various solutions to make it a trusted destination for learning, reading, and enriching activities, chosen by many families.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan from Dong Quang ward shared: “For the past five years, every summer I've gotten library cards and taken my children to the library to read and study. With the age differences between my three children, I was initially worried about whether the library space would be sufficient. However, the Provincial Library has arranged the areas appropriately and has programs suitable for each age group. My youngest child, in first grade, is fascinated by comic books and games that develop thinking skills in the children's room; my second child finds science and history books to read; and my eldest has a quiet space to concentrate on studying for exams.”
To further improve service quality and attract more readers, especially children and teenagers during the summer of 2026, the Provincial Library has focused its resources on organizing on-site services and increasing the number of books available for home borrowing. It has also built and updated thematic book collections tailored to the psychology, age, and interests of students. Simultaneously, it has intensified its efforts to coordinate with and welcome schools throughout the province to visit and organize interactive reading experiences, transforming the library into a hub connecting school education with practical learning.
In early June, the unit organized a weekend children's experience program themed "Fun Summer - Reading 2026," held regularly every Friday morning, starting on June 5th and lasting until the end of August 2026. It featured 13 completely different themes, seamlessly combining self-selected reading and interactive visual activities.
Speaking about this significant transformation, Ms. Thieu Thi Nghia, Head of the Reader Services Department at the Thanh Hoa Heritage Conservation Center, Museum and Library, said: “Our biggest goal in implementing the theme “Fun Summer - Reading 2026” is to break the boundaries of a traditional book borrowing and returning space, aiming to build a completely open environment where books play a core role and supplementary activities such as drawing, playing chess, learning life skills, and cultural exchanges are powerful tools to stimulate thinking and unleash children's creative potential. In addition, organizing awards and honoring the most active and outstanding readers each week is a psychological boost, creating motivation to help children maintain their reading habits voluntarily.”
It is evident that, through providing learning spaces and a series of practical and engaging activities held regularly, the Provincial Library is affirming its role and position in developing reading culture and educating life skills for the younger generation. Innovations in management thinking and methods of engaging readers have transformed this place into a cultural environment, fulfilling society's desire for a high-quality space for intellectual recreation.
