The plum season in Bac Ha begins in May, peaks in June, and lasts until July each year. Depending on the variety (such as Tam Hoa plums, Ta Van plums, or Purple plums) and weather conditions, the harvesting time varies. Visiting Bac Ha during this season, picking ripe plums directly from the orchards and enjoying the sweet and sour taste of this famous local fruit will be a delightful and unforgettable experience for tourists.
Thanks to plum cultivation, the lives of the local people have improved significantly.
Besides its economic value, the plum tree has helped many households escape poverty. From a staple crop, Bac Ha plums have become a distinctive tourism product that Bac Ha commune and Lao Cai province are focusing on developing. Many orchards are open to tourists who want to visit, experience, enjoy, and buy plums right in the orchards. According to the Lao Cai provincial tourism department, this is one of the newest and most attractive tourism products in the Northeast region of Lao Cai.
Tourists enjoy dressing up in traditional costumes and picking plums with the Hmong people.
