According to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e, expected to launch early next year, will feature 9 GB of RAM, consisting of six small chips with a capacity of 1.5 GB each.
In a social media post, Kuo stated that increasing RAM by 1 GB helps Apple Intelligence features run more smoothly on the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e.
For comparison, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17e have 8 GB of RAM. Meanwhile, the three high-end models launching later this year will have 12 GB of RAM, including the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the foldable iPhone. This number remains unchanged from the iPhone 17 Pro line.
According to speculation from MacRumors , equipping the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e with 9GB of RAM might leave them lacking two new features in iOS 27, centered around the Apple Intelligence suite.
Features that may be missing on both devices include facial expression adjustments, Siri AI's voice speed, and the option to "significantly improve accuracy" with speech-to-text functionality.
According to MacRumors , Apple Intelligence's advanced features require a minimum of 12 GB of RAM to run directly on the device.
When launching Siri AI in June, Apple also confirmed that the most powerful version, running directly on the product, would only support the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air, while the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17e were not included.
Based on rumors, Apple is likely to split the iPhone 18 launch schedule into two phases. The high-end models are expected to debut in September this year as usual, while the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and second-generation iPhone Air are rumored to appear early next year.
RAM and NAND memory chips remain expensive due to supply shortages. This has led Apple to increase prices on its product line starting in late June. While iPhones maintain their current prices, analysts predict the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e could be $100- $200 more expensive than their predecessors.

The standard iPhone 18 is expected to have few design changes. Apple will most likely still use a 6.3-inch screen, and the protruding rear camera may be thinner.
In terms of hardware, the iPhone 18 is likely to be equipped with the A20 processor. According to CNET , the new chip may use a manufacturing process called Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module, directly integrating RAM onto the same semiconductor wafer as the CPU, GPU, and neural processor. This design promises higher performance and better energy efficiency.
Component shortages may force Apple to make some adjustments. On Weibo , leak expert Fixed-Focus Digital highlighted that the company plans to downgrade some specifications on the iPhone 18 to the equivalent of the iPhone 18e in order to save costs.
Previously, analyst Jeff Pu stated that the standard iPhone 18 would come with 12 GB of RAM, but the latest rumors have lowered that number to 9 GB.
