Adam Wharton is a key target for Manchester United this summer. |
Manchester United are targeting Adam Wharton this summer, but the Manchester club will have to spend a considerable amount of money if they want to bring the Crystal Palace midfielder to Old Trafford.
According to Football Insider 's Transfer Insider program, Crystal Palace will only consider selling Wharton if they receive a starting fee of around £70 million.
The 22-year-old player is attracting interest from several big Premier League clubs, including Liverpool and Chelsea.
Wharton continues to impress for Palace this season. The English midfielder has 7 assists in 39 appearances across all competitions. His consistent form has led to him being considered one of the most promising young midfielders in English football.
Wharton is also expected to be included in England's squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Manchester United are expected to focus on strengthening their midfield this summer. Casemiro's future at Old Trafford is uncertain, while Kobbie Mainoo's situation remains unclear. Therefore, the MU management is planning to add at least one or two new midfielders.
Crystal Palace is known for its tough stance in transfer deals. In the past, stars like Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze, and Marc Guehi only left if the club received a substantial fee. Wharton's case is believed to be no exception.
Besides Wharton, MU are also monitoring Ibrahim Sangare of Nottingham Forest. The 28-year-old midfielder is seen as a more economical option compared to other targets. Sangare has impressed for Forest this season and possesses experience playing in both the Champions League and Europa League.
With several big clubs pursuing Wharton, the race to sign the young English midfielder is expected to be fierce when the summer transfer window opens.
