The Labor Law Consulting Office stated: According to the 2018 Law on the People's Police, the highest military rank for the position of Head of the Police in communes, wards, and towns is Lieutenant Colonel.

Therefore, the salary of commune police officers is determined according to their military rank, from non-commissioned officer to lieutenant colonel, based on the salary coefficient stipulated in the salary table for military officer ranks of the People's Army; and officers and non-commissioned officers of the People's Public Security, issued together with Decree No. 204/2004/ND-CP.

The salary of a commune police officer is calculated as follows: Salary = Salary coefficient x Base salary.

From July 1, 2026, the basic salary will be 2,530,000 VND/month.

The salary of commune police officers changes when the base salary increases; this salary does not include other allowances and subsidies.

Based on Decision No. 759/QD-TTg and the Decisions of the Minister of Public Security issued on June 22, 2025, regarding the reorganization of provincial-level police forces into 23 new units (corresponding to the new administrative boundaries) and the reorganization of the commune-level police system:

Currently, each commune has one head of the commune police force, who is on the payroll of the People's Public Security and is under the direct command and management of the Provincial Police Director.

Each commune is assigned 1-2 deputy heads of the commune police depending on the complexity and importance of the area.
