US Vice President JD Vance announced that the US and Iran officially signed a memorandum of understanding via online means last weekend, marking a new step in efforts to de-escalate tensions between the two countries.
Speaking on ABC 's Good Morning America program on Monday (June 15), Vance emphasized that the signing had been completed but no funds had yet been disbursed to Iran.
"We signed the electronic agreement yesterday and no funds have been disbursed yet. And that won't change," said Mr. Vance.

This information confirms for the first time that the online signing process has actually taken place. Previously, the parties had only mentioned the possibility of using electronic signing without announcing the completion of the procedure.
President Donald Trump said on Sunday (June 14) that the official signing ceremony will still take place in Switzerland next weekend. According to him, some key provisions of the agreement, including reopening the Strait of Hormuz for navigation and mine clearing, will only take effect after the official signing ceremony.
Regarding economic benefits for Tehran, Vance said Iran could access the $300 billion reconstruction fund financed by Gulf states, but only if it fully meets its obligations under the agreement.
"That's the kind of support they can get, funded by the Gulf coalition, as long as they fulfill their obligations," the US Vice President said in an interview with CBS .
US Vice President Vance also rejected reports that Washington had agreed to immediately release $24 billion in frozen Iranian assets. According to him, discussions on frozen assets and easing sanctions will continue in the next phase of negotiations.
Mr. Vance said the U.S. administration is prepared to consider releasing some of the frozen assets and gradually lifting economic sanctions, but any move depends on Iran maintaining its long-term commitment not to develop or possess nuclear weapons.
"We are open to discussing the release of frozen assets. But a far more important agreement is the lifting of sanctions on their economy, provided they make long-term commitments regarding their nuclear program," Vance said.
