The US Treasury Department has announced sanctions against 12 senior executives of AO Kaspersky Lab Security Company (including Kaspersky's chief operating officer, chief business development officer, and chief legal officer) due to cybersecurity risks.
The move is aimed at protecting US citizens, said Brian Nelson, undersecretary of the US Treasury for terrorism and financial intelligence.
Accordingly, US citizens and companies will not be allowed to buy or conduct financial transactions with those named on the list and Kaspersky's assets in the US will be frozen.
According to CNN, the move took place just one day after the US Department of Commerce banned the sale of Kaspersky antivirus software in the US from September 29 due to "national security concerns".
