The US Treasury Department has announced sanctions against 12 senior executives of AO Kaspersky Lab (including Kaspersky's chief operating officer, chief business development officer, and chief legal officer) due to cybersecurity risks.
According to Brian Nelson, the US Deputy Treasury Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, the move was aimed at protecting American citizens.
Accordingly, US citizens and companies will be prohibited from buying, selling, or conducting financial transactions with the individuals named on the list, and Kaspersky's assets in the US will be frozen.
According to CNN, this move comes just one day after the US Department of Commerce banned the sale of Kaspersky antivirus software in the US starting September 29 due to "national security concerns."
