Nam Cuong promotes green tourism.

On the tourism map of Thai Nguyen, a new destination is taking shape with a unique appeal: Nam Cuong Commune. Established by merging three communes: the former Nam Cuong, Dong Lac, and Xuan Lac, this area does not rely on resource exploitation but chooses a path of sustainable development, taking indigenous culture as its foundation, nature as its base, and the community as its main actors.

This is the highest, most spacious, and most visually stunning check-in spot on the summit of Tài Ngào mountain in Nam Cường commune.

The story begins in Con Poong village, one of the ten villages of Nam Cuong commune, where the legend of Mr. Tai Ngao, a kind giant who used his five fingers to carve mountains, diverting floods and leaving fertile alluvial soil for the people, is preserved.

Instead of letting this beautiful story remain only in memory, the people here, under the leadership of Mr. Vu Trung Huan (Secretary of the village Party branch), decided to retell the legend in a completely new language.

Mr. Huan spent nearly a year building a free rest stop spanning over 700 square meters and a winding stone path leading to the summit of Tai Ngao. Here, a giant steel hand model reaching out to the clouds was erected, becoming the highest and most open check-in point in the area.

Standing on the mountaintop, listening to the story of Mr. Tài Ngào and gazing out at the panoramic view of the Cọn Poong rice fields below, visitors will gain a deeper understanding of the connection between people and the land, between the past and the present.

Descending from the summit of Tai Ngao, after just a few minutes' walk, visitors will be immersed in the lush green and ripe red strawberries of Con Poong strawberry garden.

This is the first successful high-tech agricultural model combined with experiential learning in the region, achieving OCOP 3-star certification in Thai Nguyen province. During the peak season, the strawberry garden welcomes hundreds of visitors every day who come to pick their own fruit, enjoy the fresh taste, and take picturesque photos.

Nam Cuong's strengths in green agricultural tourism are further enhanced by the presence of the Nam Xuan Lac Species and Habitat Conservation Area, an important ecological piece. The locality is actively developing integrated tours titled "Agricultural Experience - Biodiversity Exploration".

After visiting the strawberry garden and experiencing homestay, tourists can continue their journey to the nature reserve to learn about the rich flora and fauna, participate in environmental education activities, and go hiking.

This combination creates a complete experience: from cultural landscapes to organic agriculture and pristine nature, meeting the trend of responsible and green tourism.

The success of Con Poong village and the pioneering figure of Vu Trung Huan have become the driving force for the Nam Cuong commune government to formulate a systematic strategy.

In 2023, Con Poong village was selected as a community tourism destination of the province. Infrastructure improvement projects such as internal village roads, public toilets, parking lots, and lighting systems were implemented.

Nam Cuong Night Market is rich in local cultural colors.

To improve quality, local people are taken to learn from successful models such as the Thai Hai Stilt House Village Ecotourism Conservation Area (Thai Nguyen) and Vat Village (Moc Chau).

Specialized tour packages are being developed, including: "Following the Footsteps of the Tài Ngào" (trekking and folk storytelling), "A Day as a Cọn Poong Farmer" (experiencing mulberry planting and harvesting), and "Cọn Poong Then Night" (ethnic folk art performances). Homestay models and local cuisine (grilled stream fish, five-colored sticky rice, herbal rice wine, etc.) are also encouraged.

Entering a new phase, Nam Cuong is not chasing after a massive influx of tourists at the expense of the environment. The government and people are moving towards a "waste-free tourism" model.

Homestays are starting to replace single-use plastics with natural materials such as rattan, bamboo, and leaves. Environmental education tours in the Nam Xuan Lac Nature Reserve are being designed more deeply, where each visitor not only comes to admire the scenery but also participates in reforestation and water resource protection.
