Free swimming lessons
This summer, instead of spending most of his time at home, Nguyen An Thien (a 4th-grade student from Hoa Xuan ward) was enrolled by his mother in a free swimming class at Hoa Phuoc No. 2 Primary School. Thien attends three lessons a week, each lasting one hour.
Since it was my first time learning to swim, my teachers guided me carefully through warm-up exercises, equipped me with knowledge about drowning prevention, and safety principles when in the pool. During practice, I learned basic swimming techniques, how to float on the water's surface, how to handle dangerous situations, and methods for first aid for drowning victims.
“After 7 lessons, I have become familiar with and adapted to the aquatic environment, learned basic floating skills, learned how to breathe underwater, and have been able to swim the first few meters. What makes me happiest is that I feel more confident when I go into the pool. I thank the instructor for his dedicated guidance,” An Thien shared.
Joining the swimming class, Nguyen Thanh Truc, a 4th-grade student, already had a basic swimming foundation, so the teacher guided her through an advanced program. Besides perfecting her technique, she also received corrections to her movements to increase her endurance and improve her performance.
“I am very happy to have received dedicated guidance from the instructors. I learned breaststroke, backstroke, and freestyle swimming techniques. I am trying to train hard to participate in the swimming competition for students organized by Hoa Xuan ward next August,” Truc said.
According to Mr. Nguyen Duy Khanh, the teacher in charge of the free swimming class, there are currently 289 students participating. Each student attends three sessions per week, each lasting one hour.
To suit the skill level of each student, the school divides them into two groups. The first group is for those who are new to swimming. The second group is an advanced class for students who already know how to swim, providing guidance to perfect their technique, improve their physical fitness, and select outstanding individuals to participate in upcoming swimming competitions.
"Regardless of the level, the common goal of the class is to help students learn to swim, develop self-protection skills, and recognize and handle emergencies in the water appropriately. This is essential preparation for them during the summer," Mr. Khanh emphasized.

A meaningful summer for students.
In addition to focusing on physical training, Hoa Phuoc No. 2 Primary School also implements the "Accompanying You" model to support students in consolidating their knowledge during the summer break.
Accordingly, the school opened two free supplementary classes for students. One class is for students who have not completed the first grade curriculum; the other is for students who are struggling with their studies, helping them to strengthen their foundation before entering the new school year.
According to Ms. Dang Thi Kim Ngan, the teacher directly involved in the course, the students reviewed two subjects, Mathematics and Vietnamese, and honed their reading, writing, calculation, and basic problem-solving skills.
Organizing free classes gives students more opportunities to reinforce their knowledge and build confidence before moving to a new grade, while also reducing pressure on parents during the summer.
In addition to classes, the school also offers a free library from Monday to Saturday for students. Notably, the library organizes a competition called "Books Touch the Heart," providing a platform for students to share their feelings about their favorite books.
According to Mai Van Tuan, Deputy Principal of Hoa Phuoc No. 2 Primary School, the school organizes activities based on the actual conditions and needs of the students.
Beyond creating a safe and enjoyable environment, these programs demonstrate the school's collective responsibility in supporting students on their journey to adulthood. Through these programs, students develop comprehensively in knowledge, skills, and physical abilities, enjoying a truly meaningful summer before the start of the new school year.
