Raising income standards for the people.

The family of Ms. Trinh Thi Minh in Da Nam village grows Taiwanese pear guava, which yields high economic returns.

Having previously cultivated sugarcane with low economic efficiency, after researching various fruit tree farming models, Ms. Trinh Thi Minh's family in Da Nam village realized that the Taiwanese pear guava variety was suitable for the soil, grew well, and yielded high economic returns. She boldly switched to a different crop structure, investing in planting 500 guava trees on an area of 4,000 square meters. Thanks to the correct application of cultivation techniques, her guava orchard grew uniformly, yielded early harvests, and produced high yields. The guavas here are large, aesthetically pleasing, have thick flesh, few seeds, and a rich, sweet taste, attracting many traders who seek them out directly from the orchard. Through trial and error, in 2023 her family further expanded production, planting an additional 600 guava trees, bringing the total to 1,100 trees, affirming a new direction in their family's economic development.

Ms. Minh said: “Besides being suitable for the soil and climate, to achieve high yields of Taiwanese pear guava, growers must ensure sufficient irrigation, regularly prune branches to create a well-ventilated canopy, and limit pests and diseases. At the same time, it is necessary to wrap the fruit to prevent insect bites and damage, and to protect it from sunburn, thus producing a clean, safe product with high commercial value.”

Compared to sugarcane farming, caring for guava trees is not as strenuous for Ms. Minh, yet yields higher economic returns. Guava trees are harvested almost year-round, but mainly in two main seasons per year. With a price of 15,000 VND/kg purchased by traders directly from the orchard, after deducting expenses, her family earns a profit of over 200 million VND per hectare. Thanks to the stable income from guava farming, Ms. Minh has further expanded her business by raising 20 pigs for meat. She raises three batches per year, with an average selling price of 60,000 VND/kg for the meat, bringing in approximately 90 million VND per year and contributing to improving her family's living standards.

Yen Phu commune was established by merging Yen Tam, Yen Phu communes and Thong Nhat town. Leveraging the local potential and strengths, the commune has identified agricultural development as its central focus, aiming to boost economic growth and improve the income and living standards of its people. In recent years, the commune has concentrated on comprehensive agricultural development towards modernity, biosafety, and high economic efficiency. In 2025, the commune implemented land consolidation and concentration for large-scale agricultural production using high technology on an area of 25.2 hectares; and continued to maintain and expand several production models following organic farming and synchronized mechanization.

In addition, the commune directed agricultural service cooperatives in the area to coordinate with Tan Loc Phat Company to implement a model of growing pumpkins for seeds and ribbed gourds on an area of 5,017 hectares. Livestock farming continues to affirm its strength in the local economic structure. Currently, there are 4 large-scale livestock farming households in the commune following the model of concentrated farms, including 2 households raising pigs on a scale of 1,500 pigs/batch, and 2 households raising chickens on a scale of 20,000 chickens/batch; in addition, there are 12 small-scale livestock farms and 293 small-scale household livestock farms, making a significant contribution to the agricultural and rural economic development of the commune.

The commune also focuses on the industrial sector, with several key products maintaining stable operations and accounting for a large proportion, such as garment manufacturing, packaging, non-fired bricks, and wood processing. Traditional crafts and small-scale industries are maintained and developed, contributing to job creation and increased income for workers. The commune currently has 69 businesses operating in various fields, providing stable employment for many local workers. The diversified development of industries has promoted a positive shift in the local economic structure, with agriculture, forestry, and fisheries accounting for 38.4%, industry and construction 40.6%, and services 21%, contributing to an average per capita income of 78.33 million VND in the commune.

Chairman of Yen Phu Commune People's Committee, Nguyen Dang Ngoc, stated: "Identifying economic development and increasing people's income as a key task, the commune continues to focus on leading and directing the comprehensive implementation of solutions in economic development. This includes prioritizing the expansion of high-value crops with wide markets; strengthening the attraction of post-harvest processing projects linked to planning and developing specialized farming areas and advantageous crops. Simultaneously, we are promoting livestock development towards farm-based production, applying high technology, and implementing biosafety-compliant household farming practices linked to environmental protection. In the industrial sector, the commune aims for development that harmoniously combines both breadth and depth... contributing to the promotion of socio-economic development in the locality."
