Dynamic in economic development

(Quang Ngai Newspaper) - "Starting a career in the countryside isn't difficult; there are many jobs available. The important thing is diligence, hard work, and determination," shared young people who have chosen to establish their careers in their hometown. Many have also innovated and created effective ways to develop their family's economy .

These days, the flower pot production facility of Mr. Dang Cao Linh (33 years old), in Hai Mon village, Nghia Hiep commune (Tu Nghia district), is always bustling with activity as he fulfills orders. Previously, Mr. Linh worked selling ornamental plants and fruit tree seedlings in other localities. With a desire to develop the economy in his hometown, Mr. Linh considered and sought a business direction based on the local traditional craft. Nghia Hiep commune is renowned as the capital of flower cultivation and flower pot making.

Mr. Le Minh Vuong, residing in Phu Khuong village, Hanh Tin Tay commune (Nghia Hanh district), is tending his guava orchard.

The craft of making flower pots is primarily done by hand. Each day, a single person can only make a few dozen pots at most. This led Linh to ponder ways to increase productivity in the craft. He researched and purchased various components to assemble and experiment with machine-made pots. After a period of planning, in early 2024, Linh officially launched machine-made pots.

“Thanks to the advantages of machine casting—speed, durability, and precision—my facility produces 500 to 1,000 pots daily, in various sizes such as 50cm, 55cm, 60cm, etc. The selling price is also lower compared to the manual pot casting method. Besides supplying the market within the province, I also sell pots to Lam Dong and Gia Lai provinces. Recently, a distributor in Sa Dec City ( Dong Thap ) contacted me to place an order. I hire 4-5 workers to transport the flower pots, helping them earn extra income,” Mr. Linh said.

Besides maintaining his business of selling ornamental plants and seedlings, and Tet flowers, the machine-made flower pot making business helps Mr. Linh earn extra income and develop his family's economy right in his hometown.

Economic development through crop cultivation and livestock farming.

In 2022, Le Minh Vuong (30 years old), from Phu Khuong village, Hanh Tin Tay commune (Nghia Hanh district), decided to leave Gia Lai and return to his hometown to start a business. “My family has always been farmers, growing fruit trees, so I took advantage of the available land to develop the economy. However, crops like corn and cassava require a lot of care, but the income is unstable. Therefore, I looked for ways to grow crops that bring higher economic returns. In March 2023, I planted 150 guava trees, and so far I've harvested two crops, selling them at 20,000 VND/kg. I invested in installing an automatic irrigation system for the plants to save costs and time,” Vuong said.

Building on this initial success, Mr. Vuong plans to expand his fruit tree cultivation model to create a long-term, sustainable path for his family's economic development. Besides farming, Mr. Vuong also invested in building chicken coops, raising up to 1,200 chickens at its peak. Mr. Vuong said that thanks to the internet, especially YouTube, he learned farming and livestock techniques to promptly care for and treat plants and animals showing signs of disease. Currently, he is implementing a model of raising chickens for meat. In the future, he plans to raise free-range chickens under the trees in his garden to take advantage of the shade and natural food sources, resulting in firmer, tastier, and more valuable chicken meat.

"In the countryside, there's no shortage of jobs for young people; as long as you're diligent and hardworking, you can accumulate wealth and increase your income. Of course, the process of starting a business also requires considering the risks you might encounter. Nothing is completely smooth sailing," Mr. Vuong said.

Besides his efforts in business and production, Mr. Vuong is also an active participant in local Youth Union activities. According to Nguyen Minh Duc, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of Hanh Tin Tay commune, in recent times, most Youth Union members and young people have gone to work in other cities or in factories and enterprises, resulting in a significant absence of young people from local activities and movements. Therefore, the fact that many Youth Union members and young people are choosing to return to their hometowns to start businesses is very meaningful, contributing to supplementing resources for Youth Union work and youth movements; and simultaneously developing the local economy and society.
