According to Dr. Vu Thi Minh, a specialist at Hanoi Eye Hospital - Dong Nai (located in Tam Hiep ward, Dong Nai province): Eyelid surgery is a minor procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids, creating a clear and harmonious eyelid crease. This surgery is usually indicated for people with drooping eyelids, indistinct eyelids, or eyes with reduced expressiveness due to aging or congenital factors. If performed correctly at a specialized medical facility, eyelid surgery is a safe, minimally invasive method that provides high aesthetic results.
Regarding the concerns of many clients about how long before Tet (Lunar New Year) they should have eyelid surgery to achieve a natural-looking, swelling-free result, Dr. Minh shared: The recovery time for eyelid surgery is approximately 5-7 days after the operation. At that time, the incision is dry, the stitches can be removed, and swelling and bruising are significantly reduced. However, for truly soft, natural-looking eyes and stable eyelid lines, it takes 3-4 weeks. In cases where the body heals well and aftercare is good, this timeframe can be shortened, but it's still not recommended to have the procedure too close to Tet to avoid unforeseen risks.
Besides the timing of the surgery, post-operative care after blepharoplasty plays a very important role. Dr. Minh advises: In the first 1-2 days after surgery, patients should apply cold compresses to reduce swelling, then switch to warm compresses as directed. The incision needs to be kept dry and clean, avoiding direct contact with water and dirt. Those who have just had blepharoplasty should limit eye makeup, avoid rubbing their eyes, avoid staying up late, and avoid stimulants such as alcohol, beer, and tobacco.
Regarding diet, it's necessary to avoid foods that can easily cause keloid scarring or slow wound healing, such as seafood, chicken, sticky rice, and water spinach, while increasing the intake of green vegetables and fruits rich in vitamin C to support the recovery process.
Dr. Minh emphasized: It is important to choose a reputable medical facility with ophthalmologists who directly examine and perform the procedure. One should not be swayed by cheap advertisements or quick beauty treatments. Beautiful eyes are not just about clearly defined eyelids; they must also ensure visual function and long-term health.
