| Residents of Ban Lung village, Thuong Minh commune, are taking advantage of favorable weather to plant corn on fields where irrigation is not readily available. |
Observations in communes such as Thuong Minh, Nghien Loan, and Thuong Quan show that farmers were present in the fields from early morning to prepare the land, repair field embankments, and clear the irrigation canals. The sounds of plows and harrows, along with the lively chatter and laughter of the people, created a bustling scene of labor in the highlands.
On a nearly 2,000 square meter plot of land where six people are busy planting corn, Ms. Ha Thi Han, from Ban Lung village, Thuong Minh commune, happily shared: "Taking advantage of the favorable weather, my family has concentrated our manpower on planting corn on the rice paddies and hillside garden land where water is not readily available. After completing this area, the whole family will proceed to plant rice on the remaining land according to the planting schedule."
For people in mountainous areas, the spring crop is always considered the most important production season of the year. Therefore, right after Tet (Lunar New Year), people are busy preparing rice, corn, soybean, and many other crops to plant in time. Many households boldly introduce new high-yield varieties suitable for the local climate. The application of scientific and technical advancements in cultivation, from seed selection to care and pest control, is gradually contributing to improved production efficiency.
According to Ms. Nong Thi Uyen, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuong Minh commune, the atmosphere of early spring labor is spreading positively through economic development emulation movements in each village and hamlet. The spirit of solidarity and mutual support is being promoted, creating motivation for people to develop production together.
In addition, local authorities and specialized agencies have proactively supported people right from the beginning of the season. The supply of seeds, fertilizers, and agricultural materials has been fully prepared; technical training courses have been organized to help farmers master the production process.

Besides farming, livestock raising is also a focus for the local people. After the Tet holiday, households clean their barns, supplement feed, and vaccinate their livestock and poultry. Many families continue to restock and expand the scale of raising buffalo, cattle, pigs, and chickens to increase their income. Proactive disease prevention and control contribute to ensuring the stable development of the livestock population.
Mr. Phan Van To, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuong Quan commune, said: "Up to this point, the spring crop production in the locality is progressing according to plan. Besides traditional rice and corn, many households are also developing additional crops with high economic value such as fruit trees, medicinal plants, short-term industrial crops, and commercial vegetables. Some villages in the lowlands have initially formed models of production and consumption linkages for agricultural products, helping people feel secure in investing and expanding the scale of production."
The enthusiastic start to the year in the highlands clearly reflects the diligence and hard work of the farmers and their aspiration for economic development. From fields ready for planting to increasingly effective livestock and crop farming models, everything is contributing to a new look for the highlands.
