On February 11th (the second day of the Lunar New Year), the Spring Bullfighting Festival of the Year of the Dragon 2024 took place in Dien Bien Dong district (Dien Bien province). This is a beautiful cultural tradition of the ethnic communities in Dien Bien Dong district at the beginning of each new year.

From early morning, a large number of people from various ethnic groups in Dien Bien Dong, dressed in traditional costumes, gathered at the district center to participate in and watch bullfighting and other traditional games at the festival. The bull owners participating in the competition had arrived several days in advance to familiarize their bulls with the arena.
Giàng A Phệnh, a resident of Sông Mã district, Sơn La province, shared that after many years of only watching the competition, this year he decided to buy a cow and take good care of it to participate in the contest.
His bulls are of the Lao breed, known for their sturdy build, strong muscles, and long, curved horns. To ensure the bulls' good health before the competition, he and others erected tents to shield the arena from the wind, increased their food intake, massaged them, and provided psychological support before the official match.

This year's Dien Bien Dong bullfighting competition attracted 74 bull owners from various communes in Dien Bien Dong district (Dien Bien province) and neighboring communes in Song Ma district (Son La province).
Mr. Vu A Chu, residing in Tia Lo village, Noong U commune, Dien Bien Dong district, Dien Bien province, said that in addition to creating a joyful and exciting atmosphere for everyone at the beginning of the new year, the cattle owners participating in the competition also have the opportunity to share practical knowledge about livestock farming. This helps improve knowledge of animal care and creates conditions for economic development.
Bullfighting competitions held during the Lunar New Year have long been a cultural tradition in the mountainous region of Dien Bien Dong, Dien Bien province.
This year, the 8th bullfighting competition continued to attract a large number of participants from both locals and tourists. According to the organizers, an estimated 10,000 people came to watch and cheer on the event.
Ms. Lan Anh, a tourist from Dien Bien Phu city, shared that this was her first time attending the bullfighting festival and she found it exciting.
She observed that bullfighting is not only entertaining but also demonstrates the skill and strength of the breeders. She was also very impressed by the unity and pride of the ethnic groups in the Dien Bien Dong highlands.

During the Spring Festival of the Year of the Dragon 2024, in addition to the main activity of bullfighting, many other traditional games were organized to create a more joyful and lively atmosphere.
