The tourism industry is accelerating.

Two months after the province's merger, Thai Nguyen's tourism industry has recorded impressive growth with a large number of visitors and revenue exceeding that of the same period in previous years. Mr. Nguyen Tung Lam, Head of the Tourism Management Department (Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism), enthusiastically stated: "This is a positive sign, clearly reflecting the potential and new attractiveness of Thai Nguyen tourism in the context of international integration."

After more than 20 years of investment and attention, the Phoenix Cave and Mo Ga Stream complex (in Vo Nhai commune) has become an attractive ecotourism destination.

Many opportunities for development

The merger of Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan provinces has opened up many development opportunities for the tourism industry. The expanded space, abundant tourism resources, and the creation of many new tourism products have created highlights that attract tourists. As a result, in July and August, Thai Nguyen's tourism industry welcomed nearly 1.5 million visitors, including over 61,000 international tourists. Total tourism revenue reached nearly 1,500 billion VND.

Thai Nguyen's tourism industry is showing strong growth. In just the first two months after the province became operational, the number of visitors reached nearly one-third of the total number of tourists for Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan combined in 2024.

During the recent National Day holiday on September 2nd, over four days (August 30th to September 2nd), tourist areas and attractions in the region welcomed more than 240,000 visitors, an increase of nearly 40,000 compared to the same period last year. Revenue is estimated at 156 billion VND, an increase of 28 billion VND compared to the Independence Day holiday in 2024.

The above figures show that Thai Nguyen's tourism is making a clear breakthrough. Mr. Do Trong Hiep, Chairman of the Provincial Tourism Association, shared: The September 2nd holiday is the busiest time for tourism businesses. Accommodation establishments achieved an average room occupancy rate of about 50%, with many hotels in Phan Dinh Phung ward reaching 80 to 100%.

Currently, Thai Nguyen province has 19 tourist areas and sites recognized by the Provincial People's Committee; nearly 60 fascinating caves with pristine and mysterious beauty; and 137 large and small lakes with scenic, environmental, and ecotourism development value. Several ecotourism, resort, and MICE projects have been put into operation. Sports tourism, adventure tourism, and cave exploration are beginning to develop into new products, creating additional attractions for tourists.

Cave, stream, and waterfall tourism is developing quite strongly in many localities in the province, attracting tourists who enjoy adventurous activities.

The province's tourism infrastructure currently includes 741 accommodation establishments, comprising 94 hotels (9 three-star, 7 two-star, and 3 one-star hotels) and 75 hotels meeting standard requirements. The province has 50 licensed travel companies, including 39 domestic and 11 international travel companies. Over 4,700 restaurants and food service establishments are in operation, with more than 100 restaurants capable of serving 1,000 diners simultaneously.

Tourism businesses and establishments are creating stable jobs for approximately 4,000 people, including 283 tour guides (64 international, 163 domestic, and 56 local guides)...

Strengthen promotion and advertising.

In the context of international integration, opening up borders facilitates visits and tourism for citizens of other countries in Vietnam. In particular, since 2023, Vietnam has officially granted a 45-day visa exemption to citizens of 13 countries, including South Korea, Japan, Russia, France, and Germany. This presents a favorable opportunity to promote the development of the tourism industry in general and Thai Nguyen tourism in particular.

The province boasts many world-class destinations, notably the Thai Hai Ethnic Village Ecological Reserve in My Hao hamlet, Tan Cuong commune, which has been recognized by the World Tourism Organization as one of the "Best Tourist Villages in the World". A notable highlight is that tourism services in Thai Nguyen have gradually become more sophisticated, with greater attention paid to quality, leading to a significant increase in the number of overnight visitors and those using these services. Ms. Trieu Kim Xuyen, Vice President of the Provincial Tourism Association and Head of the Bac Kan Tourism Branch, said: Immediately after the merger, the northern destinations of the province have seen a strong resurgence. During the September 2nd holiday, the Ba Be Lake tourist area welcomed over 2,000 visitors.

Ms. Hoang Thi Nhung, head of communications at Suoi Coc Homestay (Dai Phuc commune), said: During the four-day holiday, the facility welcomed more than 1,300 visitors who came to explore and experience the area.

Naturally, today's results are the culmination of a long and continuous effort from the Provincial Tourism Development Steering Committee. Specifically, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism – acting as the permanent agency of the Steering Committee – has actively organized tourism promotion and advertising activities both within and outside the province; provided lists and information on unique destinations to be integrated into the Ho Chi Minh City 3D/360 Map application; and proactively introduced Thai Nguyen to many provinces and cities nationwide.

Thai Nguyen attracts a large number of foreign tourists who come to visit and experience the tea-growing regions.

The Thai Nguyen tourism website, the smart tourism portal, and several social media platforms regularly update, promote, introduce, and advise on destinations. Thanks to this, domestic and international friends know about Thai Nguyen – a land possessing nearly 1,200 historical and cultural relics, 336 festivals, 709 intangible cultural heritage sites, and many stunning natural landscapes that are always open to welcome tourists to visit, explore, and experience...

Tourism in Thai Nguyen has been developing to its full potential, gradually becoming an important economic sector. To improve quality and attractiveness, the Provincial Tourism Development Steering Committee is strengthening its direction and guidance to organizations and individuals to invest in upgrading services, innovating tourism products, and training tourism professionals. Relevant establishments regularly upgrade their facilities, maintain the landscape, and ensure environmental hygiene, while also instilling in staff the spirit of "Welcoming guests with pleasure, sending them off with satisfaction."

In particular, members of the Provincial Tourism Association have flexibly coordinated everything from transportation and tour organization to destination experiences, food services, accommodation, and shopping. As a result, tourists feel safe, peaceful, and enjoyable throughout their exploration of Thai Nguyen.
