On May 19, 1890, President Ho Chi Minh was born in Hoang Tru village, later part of Kim Lien commune, Nam Dan district (formerly), Nghe An province, into the patriotic scholarly family of Nguyen Sinh Sac and Hoang Thi Loan. His birth name was Nguyen Sinh Cung.

President Ho Chi Minh dedicated his entire life to the cause of national liberation, national reunification, and peace for oppressed peoples around the world. In 1987, UNESCO passed a resolution honoring him as "National Liberation Hero and Outstanding Cultural Figure of Vietnam".

President Ho Chi Minh's birthday was first publicly announced on May 19, 1946, when he received delegations of children and representatives at the Northern Government House. Since then, May 19 has become an occasion for the people of the whole country to remember and express gratitude for his ideological and cultural legacy.

The founding day of the Viet Minh Front

On May 19, 1941, at the 8th Central Committee Conference in Pac Bo (Cao Bang), at the suggestion of leader Nguyen Ai Quoc, the Vietnam Independence League - abbreviated as Viet Minh - was officially established.

The Viet Minh Front was established in the context of the country being under the rule of Japanese fascists and French colonialists, with the goal of uniting all strata of the people to participate in the struggle for national independence. This is considered a crucial turning point in the Vietnamese revolution before the August Revolution of 1945.

Under the banner of the Viet Minh, many patriotic movements and revolutionary forces were united, laying the foundation for the general uprising to seize power throughout the country.

Traditional Day of Brigade 559 - Ho Chi Minh Trail

On May 19, 1959, Special Military Task Force 559 was established, marking the beginning of the construction of the Truong Son strategic transport route - the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail - during the resistance war against the US.

The mission of Unit 559 was to open roads, transport weapons and food, escort cadres, and ensure communication between the North and South. Despite the fierce war, the Truong Son Trail remained operational continuously for many years.

The Ho Chi Minh Trail not only holds military significance but has also become a symbol of the Vietnamese people's will for national reunification and their resilience in overcoming difficulties. May 19th is also the traditional day of the Truong Son Army Corps.

Ho Chi Minh Museum inaugurated.

On May 19, 1990, the Ho Chi Minh Museum in Hanoi was inaugurated to commemorate the 100th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birth.

The building is located near the historic Ba Dinh Square, where President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence in 1945. The museum currently houses tens of thousands of artifacts, documents, and images about the life and career of President Ho Chi Minh.

More than just a historical destination, the museum is also a space for research, traditional education, and introducing Ho Chi Minh's ideology and culture to the public both domestically and internationally. It is one of the museums with the highest number of visitors in Vietnam.

Birthday of poet Tan Da

May 19, 1889 is the birthday of the poet Tan Da, whose real name was Nguyen Khac Hieu, one of the prominent figures of Vietnamese literature in the early 20th century.

Tan Da is considered a bridge between medieval literature and the New Poetry movement. His poetry has a free-spirited tone, rich in personal emotions and romantic spirit, different from many Confucian scholars of his time.

Works such as "Swearing by the Mountains and Rivers," "Serving Heaven," and "Wanting to Be a Trickster" are still remembered today as distinctive hallmarks of early modern Vietnamese literature. Tản Đà's influence has been acknowledged by many generations of poets who followed him.

Birthday of the great poet Li Bai

May 19, 701 is recorded as the birthday of Li Bai, the famous great poet of the Tang Dynasty in China.

Li Bai is a quintessential figure of Romanticism in Eastern poetry. His poetry is distinguished by its free-spirited inspiration, adventurous ethos, and magnanimous beauty, having a profound influence on Chinese literature and many other Asian countries.

Poems such as "Quiet Night Thoughts," "Viewing the Waterfall at Mount Lu," and "Farewell to Meng Haoran at the Yellow Crane Tower" are considered classics of classical Eastern poetry and have been widely translated and taught in Vietnam.

Halley's Comet approached Earth in 1910.

May 19, 1910 marks the moment Halley's Comet made its closest approach to Earth in its famous appearance at the beginning of the 20th century.

This astronomical event once attracted significant global attention, leading to much speculation and public anxiety. In some places, rumors of an apocalypse even circulated as Earth passed through the comet's tail.

Halley's Comet is the most famous comet in astronomical history, with a resemblance period of approximately 75-76 years. Its last appearance was in 1986, and it is expected to return in 2061.
