Are artists corrupted by the audience?

Vietnamese singer My Tam has always been a beloved icon among young artists, admired for her talent and lifestyle.

In recent days, Hoang Thuy Linh's name has become a topic of discussion among netizens. From her lack of humility to clips of her lip-syncing performances or the claim that she has never performed live (according to netizens), everything has been dug up.

Netizens even made comparisons and concluded that "netizens owe Chi Pu an apology."

Hoang Thuy Linh and Chi Pu share a common issue regarding their live singing ability. This is nothing new. However, if we think that because Hoang Thuy Linh's live performances are poor, Chi Pu owes an apology for having criticized her singing in the past, then many people might feel concerned.

This kind of "choosing the best from a bad bunch" approach might be useful in some cases, but if placed in the context of "whoever sings less badly will be accepted," it will become a danger to Vietnamese showbiz and genuine music lovers.

As the old generation gives way to the new, the rise of the next generation carries the aspirations for fame of the younger generation, the expectations of the older generation, and the anticipation of the audience. Ultimately, everyone longs for a Vietnamese showbiz scene that is only "high-quality and sophisticated."

But whether that's possible depends heavily on the audience. Because if the audience has a certain level of appreciation, they certainly won't easily accept a low-quality singer or product.

It's the artists' fault if they make mistakes, but it's also because many viewers were too lenient from the start.

When discussing the future of Vietnamese showbiz, what experts are concerned about is not the creativity of the artists, but rather the awareness and level of appreciation and aesthetic taste of the audience.

As musician Vo Thien Thanh shared, "If audiences are not educated in aesthetic appreciation of art, it is understandable that they easily accept inferior products."

That concern seems to be applicable to the dynamics of Vietnamese showbiz (and of course, many other entertainment industries as well). Handsome men and beautiful women are automatically granted the privilege of becoming artists, and over 50% become famous. It's a harsh reality, yet it has persisted for many years.

That explains why some singers impress audiences with the level of investment in their productions, but when they sing, they reveal a lack of vocal ability.

Leaving aside the spoiled rich kids who pour money into becoming celebrities, there are also celebrities whose only asset is their good looks. Audiences still hail them as idols, as role models to strive for in life, without caring about their talent.

Vietnamese showbiz is full of celebrities who are very manipulative but lack talent. However, if criticized, they react aggressively, and have a large fan base ready to fight to eliminate anyone who dares to speak their mind.

Noo Phuoc Thinh impressed with his singing voice and also performed a beautiful act of kindness by supporting the victims of the mini-apartment building fire in Hanoi.

In the whirlwind of showbiz, harsh and heartbreaking truths are unavoidable. However, the audience's right to prevent these painful events from happening, or at least to minimize disappointment, seems to be overlooked. Many viewers blindly follow the crowd in praising their idols, then join the crowd in insulting and belittling others.

Trung Quân's live shows sold out both nights within 5 days, a testament to the quality of his vocals.

Many people have asked why "some celebrities get involved in scandals and then return to normal activities?". It's because Vietnamese audiences are quick to boycott and then quick to forget. Of course, no one advocates preventing others from correcting their mistakes.

But clearly, if the audience cultivates their aesthetic sense and appreciation for art, their choice of idols will never be wrong.
