One night watching a play, many layers of professional memories.

After attending the 31st Mai Vàng Awards Ceremony in 2025 as a guest presenter, People's Artist Lan Hương went to the Thiên Đăng stage and quietly sat in the audience to watch the play "Chung Nhà" (Living Together) by author Nguyễn Thu Phương – a younger colleague with whom she has worked since her time as an actress at the Youth Theatre. The play "Chung Nhà" was directed by Tuấn Khôi.

For People's Artist Lan Hương, it was a deeply moving homecoming, evoking fragments of memories about the career paths she had taken and the unfulfilled aspirations she had.

The comments shared after the performance revealed the mixed emotions of an artist who has lived through many roles. "In 2004, I participated in the play 'The House with Three Sisters' by author Nguyen Thu Phuong, directed by People's Artist Xuan Huyen."

That was also the last time I stood on the stage as an actor before I took a different path: establishing a contemporary physical theater troupe, then continuing my journey as a director, painter, lecturer at the Hanoi University of Theatre and Film, and more recently, venturing into screenwriting.

"Thanks to the connection brought about by the 'Golden Apricot Blossom ' award, this trip to the South allowed me to reunite with many colleagues I cherish," shared People's Artist Lan Huong.

Nostalgia for the profession and the "human nature and social realities"

Watching the play "Living Together," memories of her profession flooded back into the mind of People's Artist Lan Huong. She remembered the spoken drama stage, the film set, the physical theater stage, and even the classes and lectures where she passed on her skills to the younger generation of actors.

That nostalgia isn't melancholic, but deeply poignant. It's accompanied by serious reflections on right and wrong, on the pressures of the profession, and on what those in the industry often call "human nature and the ways of the world."

She candidly recounted her long-cherished dream: if only the contemporary theater troupe, founded in 2016, had met all the legal requirements and had its first day of operation; if only she had had the willpower to overcome the pressure.

"I have deep regrets" – a short but powerful statement.

The moment of seeing her peer, Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc, on the stage of Thien Dang Theater also became an emotional moment for People's Artist Lan Huong. It was an admiration for a persistent career path, prompting those in the profession to reflect on themselves and question past choices.

Author Nguyen Thu Phuong recalled the memorable performance of People's Artist Lan Huong in the role of Quynh in the play "The House with Three Sisters" at the Youth Theatre – a role later taken on by Meritorious Artist Kim Oanh.

"I still vividly remember Lan Huong's masterful acting style back then. So many emotions came flooding back. Having such a meaningful reunion with her at the end of the year, I want to cherish all those beautiful images in my heart, because the audience still remembers her. I hope there will be a project she will work on with us in 2026," said author Thu Phuong.

People's Artist Lan Hương loves the play "Living Together" by author Nguyễn Thu Phương, directed by Tuấn Khôi.

Nguyen Thu Phuong's message to her artist sister reflects her appreciation for the memories and her faith in the present, knowing that People's Artist Lan Huong now dedicates most of her time to songwriting.

That belief is well-founded because after the Stage Scriptwriting Workshop organized by the Vietnam Association of Stage Artists in Tam Dao in 2025, the script "Dao Lieu" by People's Artist Lan Huong left a beautiful impression, showing that creative energy is still being accumulated and transformed.

A quiet but meaningful choice.

The fact that People's Artist Lan Huong, after the Mai Vang Awards ceremony honoring young artists, chose to visit a prestigious theater in Ho Chi Minh City to watch and reminisce, is itself a beautiful message. Art is not just about the dazzling lights, but also about the moments when the artist puts themselves in the audience's shoes, where the artist confronts themselves and shows love for their colleagues.

For People's Artist Lan Huong, the play "Living Together" is a mirror reflecting a life of many turning points in her career, and also a reminder that as long as there is still passion and creativity, there is still a path forward, as she chose to write scripts to convey her concerns through plays.
