Given the complex nature of traffic accidents involving students, authorities believe the primary cause is their violation of traffic safety regulations.
According to statistics from the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, from the beginning of the year until now, the province has experienced 118 traffic accidents, resulting in 63 deaths and 85 injuries. Compared to the same period last year, the number of accidents decreased by 169 cases, a reduction of 58.6%; the number of deaths decreased by 25 people, a reduction of 28.4%; and the number of injuries decreased by 192 people, a reduction of 69.3%. Accidents involving young people and students accounted for a significant proportion of these incidents.
Although all three criteria (number of accidents, number of deaths, number of injuries) decreased sharply compared to the same period in 2024, traffic accidents involving teenagers and students remain complex, especially during the summer holidays when they tend to participate in traffic more frequently.
According to authorities, the key solution currently remains raising awareness and fostering a sense of self-discipline in complying with traffic safety regulations, starting with the students themselves.
The provincial police force regularly patrols and monitors the roads.
Before each summer break, the Traffic Police Department (Provincial Police) regularly collaborates with schools, especially high schools, to proactively strengthen the dissemination of traffic safety laws to students. Through cooperation with officers from the Traffic Police Department, regulations on traffic safety and safe driving skills are vividly integrated into extracurricular activities. Notably, students from various schools have creatively developed short plays with traffic safety messages to compete among different grade levels.
Nguyen Khanh Minh, a student in class 11E at Hung Yen City High School, shared: "Through this program, I have learned a lot of useful and practical knowledge, so I strictly abide by traffic safety regulations to ensure safety for myself and everyone else."
Traffic police forces (of the Provincial Police) are intensifying patrol and control activities to ensure traffic safety and order.
Over the years, the education of traffic safety laws for students has been emphasized and regularly implemented by relevant agencies and schools. However, reality shows that during the summer break, the situation of students violating traffic safety regulations remains quite complex, and the risk of traffic accidents is always present; in addition to the lack of traffic participation skills among students, part of the reason is also due to the lack of supervision from schools and families.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Phuong, Head of the Traffic Police Department of the Provincial Police, said: "Guiding students to understand the legal regulations on traffic safety, supporting them in being creative and expressing themselves through dramatization, and disseminating this information to relatives and friends; turning students into active communicators in the community, is being implemented in schools and is expected to contribute positively to improving the effectiveness of traffic safety awareness campaigns in the community."
Drowning is one of the high-risk incidents that occur during every summer vacation (Illustrative image).
Currently, the province has nearly 400,000 students. During the summer break, they don't have to go to school, so they have more time to participate in recreational activities. Besides ensuring traffic safety, preventing accidents, injuries, and drowning among teenagers and young adults is always a particularly important issue that needs to be focused on during the summer.
According to information from the Department of Children and Gender Equality (Department of Health ), since the beginning of the year, the province has experienced 6 drowning accidents resulting in 6 child deaths. These heartbreaking numbers are becoming a warning bell about the ever-present danger during every summer vacation. Therefore, in addition to coordinating and organizing swimming skills classes and recreational activities for teenagers during the summer, it is crucial for families and schools to manage and educate their children to avoid the risks of accidents, injuries, and drowning. Parents should choose safe, healthy recreational activities that are appropriate for their children's age and interests. This could include enrolling children in swimming lessons, volunteer activities, or taking them on trips to explore new things.
