Ahead of the match between Brazil and Japan in the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup on the morning of June 30th, Neymar attracted attention with a meaningful off-field gesture when he donated approximately $250,000 to support victims of the devastating earthquake in Venezuela.
According to information confirmed by Brazilian media, the 34-year-old star's donation will be transferred to humanitarian relief programs, as neighboring Brazil is suffering the severe consequences of a natural disaster.
Figures from the United Nations indicate that the earthquake killed approximately 1,450 people and left more than 50,000 missing.
The funds donated by Neymar will be used for urgent activities such as distributing food, providing clean water, purchasing medicine, and setting up temporary shelter for affected families.
This is not the first time the Brazilian striker has participated in charitable activities. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Neymar supported the city of Manaus when its healthcare system was in crisis, contributing funds to purchase ventilators and donating to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
The striker has also repeatedly participated in relief campaigns in Brazil. In early 2021, he took part in activities supporting communities affected by the pandemic. In 2024, Neymar was again mentioned when he donated approximately $3.9 million to help victims of severe flooding in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
Despite no longer being a regular starter at the 2026 World Cup and likely to be a substitute in the match against Japan, the Brazilian forward continues to exert a significant influence through his contributions outside of football, while also helping to call for international support in the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela.
