Fishermen in Ly Son Island recover strange object.

(Baoquangngai.vn) - The Ly Son Border Guard Station reported that it recently received a strange object suspected to be a marine surveying device that drifted ashore. It was discovered, salvaged, and handed over by a local fishing boat.

At approximately 1 PM on April 20th, while fishing in the Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands area, the fishing vessel QNg 96679 TS, captained by Mr. Bui Ngoc Thanh, residing in Tay An Hai village (Ly Son), discovered a strange object drifting in the water. Mr. Thanh and his crew recovered the object and brought it back to Ly Son Port to hand it over to the Ly Son Border Guard Station.

According to the description, the object is cylindrical, 1.94m long, approximately 18cm in diameter, and made of plastic. The object bears the serial numbers “BD:995723”, “00-9-2202-02-128”, and an on/off symbol. It is believed that the object may be a device used in oceanographic , marine geological, or marine environmental research.

After receiving the object, the Ly Son Border Guard Station, in coordination with the Police Station and the Military Command of Ly Son district, worked with the captain and crew of fishing vessel QNg 96679 TS to gather information and draw up a temporary seizure report for the object to serve the authorities in investigating and verifying its origin and intended use.
