Having received information that many fishing boats from local fishermen would be returning to shore to sell their catch, the seafood purchasing group led by Ms. Nguyen Thi Diem from Quynh Long commune arrived at Lach Quen port very early to wait. A short while later, large fishing boats from Quynh Luu slowly approached the shore and anchored. The seafood purchasing group went directly to the boats to meet with the captains and fishermen to inquire about the fishing situation and agree on the purchase price for the tuna.

Among the boats returning to shore, the most excited was that of fisherman Nguyen Van Quang from Quynh Long commune, who had a bumper catch of over 10 tons of tuna, worth more than 1 billion VND. While unloading the seafood, fisherman Quang said that his boat had set sail on January 5th, and during the four days of fishing, it was fortunate to catch over 10 tons of tuna. Without further delay, after finishing the catch, the boat immediately returned to Lach Quen port.

“It’s been a long time since our boat caught such a large haul of tuna. Because we caught them in a short time, the fish were very fresh. When we got back to shore, traders bought everything. After this trip, we plan to go out to sea again tomorrow to earn more income before returning home for the Lunar New Year holiday,” fisherman Quang said.
Sharing in the joy, these days, fishing boats from Quynh Long commune are returning to shore with abundant catches of tuna; on average, each boat catches 10-15 tons, bringing in 1-1.5 billion VND.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Diem, a seafood trader, since January 1st, fishing boats from Quynh Long commune have been returning to shore with abundant catches of seafood. Some boats have struck it rich after 2-3 nights, catching valuable tuna, and immediately returning to shore to sell their catch.
“Today, 3-4 fishing boats returned to shore with a bountiful catch of tuna, so traders each bought about 5-7 tons and transported them for sale. For grade 1 tuna, the price is currently 110,000 VND/kg. Although this price is lower than in previous years, every boat achieved a high yield.”

According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Chatt, Chairman of the Fisheries Association of Quynh Long commune (Quynh Luu district), the commune currently has 38 offshore fishing vessels, including 30 purse seine fishing vessels. In 2023, the total seafood catch in the commune reached over 15,000 tons, generating billions of dong in revenue. In the first fishing trips of 2024, many fishing vessels achieved high yields, and their income also increased. From now until the Lunar New Year, fishermen can make another 1-2 trips out to sea.
