FPT's Quality Director: Clean data is the passport to Net Zero.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Net Zero is becoming a real pressure on businesses, but "greening" will be difficult to go far without standardized, transparent, and traceable data.

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí21/12/2025

When Net Zero is no longer just a slogan in reports, the biggest question for businesses comes back to something very "technical" but vital: data.

Without sufficiently clean, standardized, and traceable data, all greening commitments easily fall into the trap of doing a lot and talking a lot, but failing to measure, manage effectively, and making transparency even more difficult.

In this context, "dual transformation" is emerging as an effective approach: using digital transformation to create a measurement framework, and then systematically reducing emissions from that framework.

As a technology corporation,FPT chose to begin its ESG journey by rebuilding its own "data infrastructure," from greenhouse gas inventory to energy consumption management in operations, and then expanding that experience to partner with other companies.

In an interview with a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper , Ms. Pham Thi Quynh Vi, FPT's Quality Director, shared how FPT sets its Net Zero 2040 goal, how the corporation measures emissions reduction, applies AI and Big Data to ESG, and practical lessons from dual transformation projects.

Data: A key factor in double conversion

Madam, FPT has identified "Green Transformation" as a strategic focus alongside "Digital Transformation." Could you share more details about the Net Zero roadmap that FPT has committed to, and where the Group is currently on this journey?

- Starting in 2024, FPT announced its ESG orientation with specific action programs and goals across four key areas: excellent governance, a high-quality working environment, environmental activities, and partnership for community development, aiming for NetZero by 2040.

On this path, FPT is implementing a "dual transformation," meaning that digital transformation is a tool to realize green transformation. Without a digital foundation (data, measurement systems, standardized processes), green transformation can easily remain just slogans or fragmented activities.

Therefore, we chose a parallel approach: digitizing to measure, manage, and ensure transparency of environmental indicators, while simultaneously implementing emission reduction programs in operations.

A specific example is FPT's efforts to standardize the method of inventorying greenhouse gas emissions data, creating a "true and verifiable" data base to begin controlling the variation of electricity consumption indicators.

In addition, FPT is also stepping up the implementation of many environmental activities such as encouraging the use of recycled materials, investing in green power systems, and strictly enforcing environmental policies, thereby affirming its commitment to the Netzero roadmap.

At ESG workshops organized by Dan Tri newspaper, the concept of "clean data" was considered a passport to success for businesses. As a technology corporation, how is FPT solving the problem of collecting and transparently disclosing its own ESG data to set an example for its partners?

Internally, FPT has built a "Make in Vietnam" ESG – AI technology ecosystem (Photo: FPT).

"Clean data" is not the end result of ESG, but a starting point. Therefore, FPT approaches ESG from a technological perspective, focusing on solving the core problem that many businesses are facing: scattered, unstandardized, and difficult-to-access ESG data.

Internally, FPT has built a "Make in Vietnam" ESG – AI technology ecosystem, including platforms for inventorying and managing greenhouse gas emissions, IoT solutions, centralized data management tools, and technological measures to ensure security in data collection and use…

These platforms enable real-time data collection, standardization, and control across different operational areas and units, while automating aggregation and reporting, significantly reducing reliance on manual data entry.

Based on our internal implementation experience, FPT adopts a similar approach, adapting it accordingly when working with clients and partners. We typically begin by conducting surveys to clarify where ESG data is being generated, who is responsible, and the level of data trustworthiness.

Based on this, FPT advises businesses on building ESG data platforms and directly shares practical lessons learned. This approach has been effectively implemented in large-scale manufacturing businesses as well as financial institutions, sectors with very high demands for transparency and data accessibility.

Emission reduction needs to be measurable and scalable.

As a large technology company, FPT has a significant energy consumption for its data centers and digital infrastructure. What specific technological solutions or initiatives does FPT have to optimize energy and reduce carbon emissions in its operations?

- For FPT, the current solutions for optimizing energy and reducing carbon emissions are no longer just slogans, but are being implemented in a planned, measurable, and scalable manner.

For data centers, we choose an ESG approach right from the design and construction phase to operation, rather than just optimizing during the usage phase.

The data centers are designed and operated according to LEED Certification standards – an international standard for green buildings – which helps the data centers reduce energy consumption from the outset, optimize the building's lifecycle, and limit carbon emissions throughout their operation.

The Power Utilization Efficiency (PUE) index by design is currently rated highly domestically and regionally. The selection of IoT and AI solutions at headquarters, campus, and offices is crucial for managing electricity, water, and lighting based on area, user density, and time; prioritizing energy-efficient equipment.

Utilize efficient air conditioning systems to ensure the operational efficiency and lifespan of equipment. Implement hybrid models combining in-office and remote work; thoroughly adopt a paperless office, digitize processes to the highest degree to achieve the goal of reducing office consumption and resources; and promote the application of digital initiatives in operational management.

Recently, we have also begun implementing sustainable procurement practices, initially collaborating with suppliers to reduce carbon emissions in the supply chain.

Currently, the trend of applying AI and Big Data to implement ESG is receiving a lot of attention. What solutions has FPT developed and is developing to support businesses in measuring, reporting, and optimizing carbon emission metrics?

FPT has developed and deployed VertZéro – a software platform for inventorying and managing greenhouse gas emissions, supporting businesses in measuring emissions across all three Scope 1, 2, and 3 ranges according to international standards such as the GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, and the EU's CBAM.

VertZéro applies Big Data to manage and update thousands of emission factors, covering data from over 100 countries and territories, and allows for direct data integration from operational systems such as ERP, procurement, and logistics, thereby reducing reliance on manual data entry.

Based on that data, AI is integrated to support the estimation and standardization of emissions data according to industry specifics, detect anomalies, and fill data gaps. Analytical and predictive models help businesses build emission reduction scenarios, monitor target achievement in real time, and automate reporting to meet the requirements of domestic regulatory agencies and international standards.

FPT often mentions the concept of "double transformation." Could you share a typical case study where FPT successfully supported a Vietnamese or international business in greening through technology?

A prime example is the FPT project implemented for listed manufacturing companies in the CPG, F&B, and Logistics sectors, which are oriented towards developing green products and expanding exports to markets with high ESG requirements.

These businesses are deeply involved in global supply chains, and therefore face simultaneous pressures regarding operational efficiency, data transparency, and compliance with sustainable development standards.

In this project, FPT approached it with the spirit of dual transformation. First, we advised and implemented digital transformation in management and operations, helping businesses standardize data, improve supply chain management efficiency, and create a reliable data foundation.

Based on that, FPT continues to support greenhouse gas inventories, assess key environmental impacts, and prepare ESG reports according to GRI standards, in line with the requirements of partners and export markets.

The key point is that ESG should not be presented as a standalone report, but rather closely integrated with the business strategy and competitiveness of the enterprise. By combining digital transformation and green transformation, businesses not only meet compliance requirements but also enhance brand reputation, improve risk management, and expand opportunities for international cooperation.

The goal is to train 10,000 semiconductor engineers by 2030.

Within the "S" of ESG, FPT has a significant advantage in education and human development. How does FPT's ESG strategy focus on training high-quality human resources, especially for green technology and semiconductors in Vietnam?

FPT is strongly focusing on training high-quality human resources for green technology and semiconductors through its education and training system, while also promoting international cooperation. We affirm our commitment to long-term partnership with universities and research institutes in human resource training and semiconductor technology development.

In 2025, FPT launched the Vietnam Semiconductor Incubation and Development Center (VSIC) – in collaboration with the National Innovation Center and partners – to create an environment for training high-quality human resources and promoting entrepreneurship in the semiconductor sector. At the same time, we are also exploring various models and products to provide Vietnamese students with more options.

We also develop various models to implement training tailored to the needs of Vietnamese students and the market, linked to real-world problems, divided into multiple tiers, and focused on key areas, avoiding a scattered approach.

This serves as a foundation for FPT to realize its goal of training 10,000 semiconductor engineers by 2030, contributing to Vietnam's target of training 50,000 semiconductor engineers.

As a global corporation with tens of thousands of employees in many countries, how does FPT maintain diversity, equality, and inclusion in the workplace while ensuring the mental health of its programmers and technology engineers?

FPT places great emphasis on issuing and seriously implementing policies aimed at building a high-class and happy working environment. Specifically, these include: Policies on respecting human rights at FPT, Regulations on healthcare for employees, Regulations on effective work management, Regulations on regular workplace dialogue, etc.

To ensure the mental well-being of our team of programmers and technology engineers, we strive to build a comprehensive benefits system that meets not only their financial needs but also their physical and mental health, learning, and community engagement needs.

These welfare policies provide opportunities for employees to build careers globally and become global citizens. Sports and cultural activities are regularly organized to enhance the experience and sense of belonging of FPT employees.
