From policy framework to demands for decisive action

As Vietnam enters a new phase of development with the requirement for green, sustainable growth and enhanced national competitiveness, science and technology are no longer just supporting factors but have become core driving forces. Resolution No. 57 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation is considered a crucial political foundation, creating a framework for ESG (Environmental, Sustainable, and Globally Sustainable) development to be implemented more systematically and effectively.

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha delivered the opening remarks at the Forum.

In her opening remarks at the Forum, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha emphasized that the Vietnam ESG Forum 2025 is taking place exactly one year after the implementation of Resolution 57, and also during the preparation period for 2026 – the beginning of a new era of national development. This is a significant time to discuss the strategic vision and strong, decisive actions to drive Vietnam's rapid and sustainable development.

The forum focused on discussing three key areas: promoting science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation in businesses; assessing the current state of ESG implementation; and clearly identifying the advantages, difficulties, challenges, and new requirements in the context of deep integration.

Dr. Tran Van Khai, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly 's Committee on Science, Technology and Environment, presented at the Forum.

From a policy perspective, Dr. Tran Van Khai, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Science, Technology and Environment, affirmed that ESG is no longer a voluntary choice but has become a "passport" for businesses to integrate internationally, attract capital, and enhance competitiveness. However, ESG is only truly valuable when implemented genuinely, avoiding the practice of "greenwashing."

According to Dr. Tran Van Khai, green transformation must be closely linked to digital transformation, in which technology plays a key role in helping businesses improve productivity, ensure data transparency, access green capital, and gradually make ESG a core competitive advantage for Vietnamese businesses.

ESG is no longer an option, but a core competitive advantage.

From a business perspective, TPBank CEO Nguyen Hung believes that measuring and implementing ESG is not easy, but it is entirely feasible if businesses have the determination and a clear roadmap. While previously ESG was a choice for pioneering businesses, now, sooner or later, all businesses must participate.

One of the discussion topics at the Forum.

Besides cost – a factor that many businesses are concerned about – experts also emphasize the role of culture and ethical values. According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Binh, General Director of STP Group, these are factors that are difficult to measure but are especially important, particularly for technology companies.

In reality, ESG is still a relatively new field in Vietnam, and specific guidelines on ESG are currently limited. Many opinions at the Forum suggested that for ESG to be truly effective, businesses need to approach it simultaneously across three pillars: people, processes, and technology.

Based on that experience, Dr. Tran Van Khai proposed three immediate actions, emphasizing the need to develop a set of criteria and guidelines for implementing ESG that are suitable for each group of businesses and each sector, ensuring feasibility and avoiding formality.

The awards are the result of a rigorous evaluation process, based on a clear system of criteria, suitable to the practical conditions of Vietnamese businesses and approaching international standards.

In his closing remarks, journalist Pham Tuan Anh, Editor-in-Chief of Dan Tri newspaper and Head of the Organizing Committee of the ESG Vietnam Forum 2025, emphasized that the presentations and discussions at the Forum directly addressed key elements of sustainable development, particularly the role of science and technology in the context of Vietnam and the world facing many profound challenges.

On this occasion, the Organizing Committee officially launched the Vietnam ESG Forum 2026 with the theme "Seizing Opportunities, Leading Growth," further affirming its commitment to accompanying businesses on their journey towards sustainable and substantive development.
