Dual transformation pushes Vietnam's industry and energy closer to sustainability goals

On the afternoon of December 3, 2025, in Hanoi , the thematic session "Dual transformation in industrial production and energy" took place within the framework of the Industry and Trade Digital Transformation Forum 2025, with the participation of representatives of management agencies, research institutes and many enterprises in the industrial - energy sector.

Thứ trưởng Bộ Công Thương Nguyễn Sinh Nhật Tân phát biểu tại sự kiện.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan spoke at the event.

Opening the discussion, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said that the digitalization process is establishing a new operating model for industrial enterprises; meanwhile, green transformation is an urgent requirement to ensure sustainable development.

According to a representative from the research institute, in order for businesses to maintain long-term growth, it is necessary to promote automation, standardize data and develop the trend of “smart factories”. This system not only makes the production process transparent but also helps businesses easily participate in global supply chains with high standards.

The reality at some pioneering enterprises shows the practical benefits of the double conversion model. For example, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) said that the rate of unmanned substations has reached 92.68% at the 500 kV level and 100% at the 110 kV level; at the same time, the use of UAVs and artificial intelligence helps monitor the grid, reduce incident handling time and improve operational safety.

In the chemical industry, VINACHEM - Vietnam Chemical Group - has set a target of reducing CO₂ emissions by at least 5% by 2030 and increasing the use of renewable energy by 5-10 %. They are applying IoT, rooftop solar, production line automation and material recycling to move towards cleaner, more efficient production.

Not only in production, distribution is also being digitized. Petrolimex is deploying contactless payment systems, real-time gas station locators and waiting time maps to optimize operations at stores - proof of digitalization spreading to retail.

In addition, an enterprise in the industrial production sector - Rang Dong Light Bulb and Vacuum Flask Joint Stock Company - said that after applying the "Digital & Green Transformation + AI" model, they reduced up to 70% of electricity consumption per unit of revenue and automated 72% of the production line. They also developed a robotic image processing system (VGR) with a much lower cost than imported machines.

At the seminar, experts and businesses agreed that to successfully implement the dual transformation in industry - energy, it is necessary to have synchronous investment in data infrastructure, apply digital technologies such as AI, IoT, automation, and develop low-emission production models, towards ESG standards.

Combining digital and green transformation - with the support of policies, technology and commitment from businesses - is considered an inevitable direction to improve production capacity, protect the environment and meet sustainable development standards in the context of globalization.
