The 13th ASEAN Para Games will be held in Thailand from January 15th to 27th, 2026. This upcoming Games will feature competitions in 19 sports with 536 events for people with disabilities from 11 Southeast Asian countries.

Overview of the working session
Reporting at the meeting, the Director of the Vietnam Sports Department, Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet, stated that, based on Vietnam's plan to participate in international sports events in 2025, and in accordance with the regulations of the Organizing Committee, as well as after reviewing and compiling the achievements of athletes and coaches, the Vietnam Sports Department has selected a delegation to participate in the Games consisting of 27 coaches (including 5 coaches funded through social contributions) and 141 athletes (including 14 athletes funded through social contributions), along with officials, experts, and medical staff.
Vietnamese athletes will compete in 11 sports: Athletics, Swimming, Weightlifting, Chess, Table Tennis, Badminton, Boccia, Archery, Blind Judo, Tennis, and Fencing, with the goal of achieving a top ranking.

"Up to now, coaches and athletes are actively training to be as well-prepared as possible for the Games. Almost all members plan to register for medal-winning achievements," reported Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet.
In addition, the Vietnam Sports Department meticulously prepared the plan, specialized equipment, costumes, and advance preparations, ensuring that all stages before, during, and after the Games were fully covered.
After hearing the report and giving directives at the working session, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong emphasized that the 13th ASEAN Para Games is the first important event of 2026 for the Vietnam Department of Sports and Physical Education. This is also an event of significant importance for athletes with disabilities. Therefore, its importance is no less than that of the SEA Games.
The Deputy Minister requested the Vietnam Sports Department to continue discussions and reach a consensus on the preparations, ensuring a thorough and solemn send-off ceremony.
"Support for athletes also needs special attention, ensuring sufficient and appropriate staffing for the delegation," Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong emphasized.

The Deputy Minister also requested the Department of Sports and Physical Education to be thorough in the assessment of injuries, ensuring that no athlete is prevented from competing, and to closely monitor the injuries of key athletes. Maximum care must be provided, ensuring that no athlete suffers any disadvantage.
In the coming years, the Deputy Minister suggested that the sports sector continue to strengthen its efforts in seeking out young talent, maintaining training and development programs to find promising athletes who can inherit the legacy and achieve high results in the future.
The send-off ceremony for the Vietnamese Paralympic Team participating in the 13th Southeast Asian Paralympic Games is scheduled to take place on December 16th in Ho Chi Minh City.
