More than 205 billion VND to protect and promote the value of Cham people's pottery art heritage

Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has just approved the Project on Management, Protection and Promotion of the Value of Intangible Cultural Heritage "Cham Pottery Art" for the period 2025 - 2028 and the following years.

The project's subjects are the community, state agencies, and organizations involved in the management, protection, and promotion of the value of the intangible cultural heritage "Cham pottery art". The project's implementation space is Bau Truc village and village 12 (Ninh Phuoc commune), which are practicing the Cham pottery craft. The project's goal is to remove the intangible cultural heritage "Cham pottery art" from the risk of needing urgent protection by 2026; to develop product quality standards, register the "Cham pottery" trademark for Bau Truc Cham pottery products by 2027, and at the same time complete the planning for the protection of the cultural space of Bau Truc pottery village and plan the tourism model for the development of the Bau Truc pottery village community; from 2028 to 2030 and the following years, aim to register "Cham pottery art" as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

According to the estimate, the total cost of implementing the project is more than 205 billion VND, to build construction items, protect and promote the value of cultural heritage; teach, train, develop the Cham pottery market... Of which, the central and local budget sources are about 163.5 billion VND, the rest is mobilized from socialization from domestic and international organizations.

Pottery making has not only been closely associated with the economic life but also the socio-cultural life of the Cham people of Bau Truc village for generations. Through the ups and downs of history, no matter how difficult it is, the Cham people of Bau Truc have not given up their craft. At the end of 2022, "Cham pottery art" was recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent protection. The implementation of the Project on Management, Protection and Promotion of the Value of the Intangible Cultural Heritage "Cham pottery art" in the period of 2025 - 2028 and the following years is necessary and urgent to preserve this cultural heritage.
