U22 Vietnam is considered to be better than U22 Laos thanks to its depth in the squad and its consistent performance throughout the year. However, against U22 Laos, coach Kim Sang Sik and his team had to work very hard to win all 3 points on the opening day.

In the 28th minute, U22 Vietnam opened the scoring against U22 Laos. From a dribbling situation on the right wing, Minh Phuc crossed the ball past goalkeeper Lokphathip, "clearing the neck" for Dinh Bac to tap the ball into the empty net to open the score 1-0.
