According to a VNA reporter in Washington, the US government confirmed that it is implementing an unprecedented large-scale security and logistics campaign to ensure the 2026 World Cup finals take place safely, smoothly, and leave a good impression on millions of international fans.
White House Task Force Executive Director for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Andrew Giuliani said this will be the biggest sporting event in US history, especially when it coincides with the 250th anniversary of the country's Independence Day (1776-2026) and will have a match in Philadelphia, where the US Declaration of Independence was signed, making preparations at the highest level.
According to Mr. Giuliani, President Donald Trump has ordered the deployment of all federal capabilities to protect the 2026 World Cup finals - an opportunity to show the best of America.
The interagency task force is currently coordinating security, transportation, intelligence, health and immigration among more than 30 federal agencies and 11 host cities.
With 104 matches, 49 training centers and an expected fan base of 5-7 million people, this is considered the largest security operation the US has ever carried out. Mr. Giuliani emphasized that the US welcomes the passion of world football, but will not tolerate any disruptive behavior that threatens public safety.
The US government has allocated more than $1 billion to comprehensively upgrade surveillance and emergency response capabilities, of which $625 million will directly support local law enforcement, while $500 million is for counter-drone programs.
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are building an International Police Coordination Center, allowing real-time intelligence sharing with countries with participating teams.
Federal teams have been deployed to all 11 host cities to help protect stadiums, fan zones, training grounds and team hotels.
The State Department is also deploying more than 450 additional staff to consulates around the world to significantly reduce visa processing times for fans who want to travel to the US to watch the games. In addition, the US has announced a shortened visa process for fans of teams that have qualified for the finals.
The 2026 World Cup finals, held in the United States, Canada and Mexico, will be the 23rd World Cup in the history of world football. This is also the first time the tournament will have the participation of 48 national teams, after the last time it was held with 32 teams at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The tournament will be held in 16 cities in 3 co-host countries.
At the first Trilateral High-Level Coordination Meeting for the 2026 World Cup in August, the United States, Canada and Mexico reaffirmed that the 2026 World Cup is a historic event that will unite the three countries and showcase the best of North America to the world. It is also an opportunity to strengthen a strong and dynamic regional partnership.
