Vietnamese table tennis fans are very familiar with the name Dinh Anh Hoang, as he has consistently played brilliantly over the past two years.
At the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, Dinh Anh Hoang and his female teammate Tran Mai Ngoc played exceptionally well, winning the gold medal in the mixed doubles event.
At that time, Dinh Anh Hoang was only 21 years old, with a promising future ahead of him. And he didn't just stop at doubles events, but continued to excel in singles events as well.
Recently, Anh Hoang continued to shine and won the men's singles title at the 2025 National Table Tennis Championships for Outstanding Players, demonstrating his extremely high level of performance.
At the 33rd SEA Games, Dinh Anh Hoang was expected to continue to shine. However, in a recent personal statement, the badminton player, who is part of the Public Security T&T team, unexpectedly announced his intention to withdraw from the SEA Games in Thailand.
The reason given by Dinh Anh Hoang is that his name was not included in the list of athletes participating in the men's singles event.
It is known that the SEA Games organizing committee allows each country to register a maximum of 2 singles players per event. And in the men's singles event, the Vietnamese table tennis team registered 2 athletes: Nguyen Anh Tu and Nguyen Duc Tuan.
This decision isn't really surprising, because Anh Tú and Đức Tuân are both more experienced players than Đinh Anh Hoàng. Both have maintained consistent form over many years.
Duc Tuan, in particular, is the men's singles champion at the 31st SEA Games. Although Anh Hoang just won the Outstanding Players Tournament, it cannot yet be said that he is of a higher caliber than the two senior players at the present time.
The Vietnamese table tennis coaching staff also hoped that Anh Hoang would continue to impress in the doubles events, thereby winning a gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games. But from the athlete's perspective, it's understandable why Dinh Anh Hoang is upset.
According to Tuoi Tre newspaper , the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation will now try to persuade the 23-year-old player to continue participating in the SEA Games 33 as originally planned.
If Dinh Anh Hoang does not participate in the SEA Games, this will be a painful blow to the ambitions of the Vietnamese table tennis team in Thailand.
