On the afternoon of December 5, in villages and hamlets in Lien Huong commune, Lam Dong province, dozens of officers and soldiers of the Air Defense - Air Force, in coordination with the Commune Police and the Youth Union of Lien Huong commune, were helping people clean up mud and salvage property after the recent historic flood.
Previously, water from Long Song Lake flowed downstream, causing widespread flooding in many areas in Lien Huong commune. Authorities recorded that more than 1,000 houses were flooded 1-1.5 meters deep, and floodwaters carried garbage and mud into people's houses, causing property damage.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Tuyen (47 years old, resident of Lien Huong commune) said that the floodwaters came so fast that her family did not have time to move their belongings. The refrigerator and television were submerged in the floodwaters.
"The damage was so severe, the furniture in the house was submerged in mud, I have never seen so much flood water as this time" - Ms. Tuyen said.

Mr. Nguyen Truong Sa - Chairman of Lien Huong Commune People's Committee - said that this was the largest flood discharge from Long Song reservoir ever with a flow rate of nearly 1,200m³/s, more than 100 hectares of land along Long Song river were deeply flooded, many livestock were swept away by floodwaters. The initial damage estimate was about 30 billion VND.
"This is the first time Long Song reservoir has discharged floodwaters with such a large flow, causing heavy damage to people in Lien Huong commune," said Mr. Sa.
On the same day, the Defense Command of Region 5 said that as soon as flooding occurred in the old Binh Thuan province, the unit mobilized canoes, crossed many sections of fast-flowing water to bring rice, instant noodles, drinking water and essential necessities to each isolated household.
