On the red soil slopes in Hanh Tri 2 village (Ninh Son commune), rows of ginseng plants stretch out, lush green. Previously, this area mainly grew cassava and sugarcane, which were not economically efficient, and often suffered from the situation of "good harvest, low price, good price, bad harvest". In recent years, people have switched to growing ginseng, and economic efficiency has increased significantly. Mr. Nguyen Van Luc (Hanh Tri 2 village) said: "My family has 1.5 hectares of land, previously growing corn and cassava; income was unstable. Since switching to growing ginseng, income has increased many times. Ginseng plants grown for 2-3 years can yield roots and leaves, sold year-round. Thanks to that, my family's economy has stabilized and we have accumulated capital to invest in expanding the area."

The success of the ginseng growing model in Ninh Son commune is thanks to the connection between businesses and farmers. Farmers have their products purchased by Lien Ket Vietnam Herbal Joint Stock Company (Ninh Son commune). Mr. Nguyen Duc Khanh - Sales Director of Lien Ket Vietnam Herbal Joint Stock Company said: "We accompany farmers to develop ginseng raw material areas in an organic direction, ensuring stable supply and consistent quality. Production linkage helps farmers stabilize output, increase product value, and form a closed production chain. In addition to purchasing products for farmers, the company is growing more than 200 hectares of ginseng, and plans to expand the area to 500 hectares. The company's ginseng products are diversified to meet consumer tastes, such as: tea bags, liquid extract, resistance-enhancing drinks, ginseng pillows..., creating added value for the entire raw material area".

In addition to the ginseng tree, in recent years, the xao tam phan tree has grown strongly. Mr. Tran Ba Ninh - Director of Ba Ninh Company Limited (Hoa Thang Ward) shared: "Understanding the medicinal value and scarce output of the xao tam phan tree, for over 15 years, I have researched, invested in conservation areas, nursery areas and linked with people to develop more than 100 hectares of this precious medicinal plant in Hon Heo land belongs to two residential groups Tien Du 1 and Tien Du 2 (Hoa Thang ward). In 2025, we have planted 200,000 seedlings and plan to continue working with people in 2 villages to expand the area of raw materials for production, meeting consumer needs."

Due to slow growth and many years of accumulation of active ingredients, especially the saponin group, the yield of Xao Tam Phan is only 1 - 3 tons/year. However, the economic value is very large. Thanks to that, the economic efficiency of this medicinal plant far exceeds many traditional crops, helping people have a stable source of income.

Directions for sustainable agricultural development

According to traditional medicine, ginseng has the effect of nourishing blood and strengthening resistance; and xạ tam phan supports the liver and gallbladder, and clears body heat. If grown and processed properly, these medicinal herbs can replace imported sources and create a local brand.

Dr. Phan Cong Kien - Deputy Director of Nha Ho Cotton Research and Agricultural Development Institute ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) commented: "Khanh Hoa's climate and soil conditions are very suitable for growing many precious medicinal herbs, including ginseng and xa tam phan. In particular, the connection between businesses and farmers in exploiting the value of these precious medicinal herbs will help localities form an agricultural production value chain that brings high economic efficiency. This is a direction to help farmers increase their income, stabilize their lives, and even get rich sustainably."

With the right development orientation, promoting the linkage between farmers and enterprises in developing specialized medicinal plant growing areas not only helps people in many localities have stable income, enterprises have high-quality raw materials for production, society has access to safe products, but more importantly, contributes to the implementation of the province's sustainable agricultural development goals.
