Facing the opponent considered the weakest in Group B, the Vietnamese women's team scored early in the 4th minute after Nguyen Thi Hoa's cross from the right wing made the Malaysian goalkeeper confused, creating conditions for Hai Yen to open the score for Vietnam.

Vietnam women's team dominated the match against Malaysia
The early opening goal helped the Vietnamese women's team gain momentum and maintain their dominance. In the 22nd minute, Malaysia's goalkeeper Ezza Ashikin made a mistake in judging the landing spot, before Hai Linh's cross from the left wing. Immediately, Bich Thuy headed the ball into the opponent's net. Just 5 minutes later, the score was 3-0 for Vietnam after Van Su passed the ball into the penalty area, Hai Yen broke the offside trap and headed the ball into the net.
Despite scoring 3 goals first, the Vietnamese Women's Team still maintained steady pressure on the opponent's goal. In the 32nd minute, from a pass from Truc Huong on the right wing, Hai Linh connected to raise the score to 4-0 for the home team. Before the end of the first half, the Vietnamese Women's Team had 3 consecutive chances but could not capitalize on them.
In the second half, coach Mai Duc Chung brought Thai Thi Thao onto the field. Just 3 minutes later, she brought the Vietnamese women's team to a 5-0 lead. In the 59th minute, Thai Thi Thao continued to put her name on the scoreboard. In the 78th minute, Thai Thi Thao completed her own hat-trick.
The last 10 minutes saw the Vietnamese women's team continue to push forward to create a bigger gap in the score. Unfortunately, in the 89th minute, Ngoc Minh Chuyen's shot hit the post. The 7-0 victory over Malaysia put the Vietnamese women's team temporarily at the top of Group B, ahead of Myanmar in terms of goal difference (Myanmar women's team beat the Philippines 2-1 in the previous match).

Coach Mai Duc Chung is satisfied with his players' performance.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, coach Mai Duc Chung said: “The opening match of the SEA Games, whether men’s or women’s football, is very difficult. Today, the Vietnamese women’s team defeated Malaysia – a team that is improving and had good results against Bangladesh. I always remind the players to stay focused and fortunately we were able to win.”
According to head coach Mai Duc Chung, the Vietnamese women's team has met important requirements in terms of force when there are no injuries or yellow cards, thereby ensuring the best force for the next match. In addition, the coaching staff will also have calculations to arrange the squad alternating between young and experienced players, instead of using one group entirely.
"My request today was to score many goals, and the team did well. In football, every coach wants to score as many goals as possible, especially when there are still many competitors in the group. I always hope the team can score more goals if possible" - Coach Mai Duc Chung said.
