Nguyen Hai Phong writes music for a man after 5 years of putting down his pen

The announcement ceremony of the MV Vietnam Essence - the theme song of the Vietnam Essence Awards - took place in Ho Chi Minh City, gathering dozens of famous artists.

The song was composed by musician Nguyen Hai Phong inspired by the flow of Vietnamese identity and the desire to pass on national cultural values to the younger generation.

"I haven't written music for about 5 years. This time, I returned to composing because of a man who seemed to have little to do with me, producer Nguyen Phan Giang (Organizer of the Vietnam Essence Awards - PV) . Giang urged me to write, and in me there was also a seed that was planted 10 years ago but never sprouted because of lack of conditions and fate. And so, I entered the Vietnam Essence project with honor - very different from a normal job," he said.

The song brings together 11 singers from many different generations: Lam Truong, Phuong Vy, Phan Manh Quynh, Bui Lan Huong, Isaac, Huong Tram, Bui Cong Nam, Lam Bao Ngoc, GreyD, Cao Ba Hung and Nguyen Hung.

Present at the event, singer Bui Lan Huong said she was impressed from the first time she heard the draft. "I thought how could a cheerleading song be so good and lively, I had to sing it," she recalled.

Bui Lan Huong deeply agrees with the viewpoint that "from culture comes the essence" in Nguyen Hai Phong's compositions. After many years of studying abroad, the female singer realized that rich and powerful countries with long-standing traditions all have a solid cultural foundation.

Nguyen Hung was both proud and pressured to think of himself as a part of the phrase "quintessence of Vietnam" while Lam Bao Ngoc breathed into the work gratitude for being able to live and sing under a peaceful and beautiful sky.

The MV begins with a scene of a boy entering a museum and finding a magical box - which opens a journey to discover pieces of Vietnamese culture.

The MV recreates the beauty of 5 pillars of art including: music , cinema, dance, theater and contemporary art.

Therefore, the product brings together dozens of famous artists such as: actors Kaity Nguyen, Nguyen Hung, Lam Thanh Nha, Ho Thu Anh; 12 dancers, choreographers; 5 MV directors...

In terms of dance, the product also features performers from traditional arts such as: clown opera, ball dance, cup dance...

Producer Nguyen Phan Giang said that the quintessence of Vietnam is not individual stories but the combined strength of many industries sharing the same aspiration to honor and elevate Vietnamese culture internationally.

The crew invited big names in music, cinema, dance, and theater to appear together in the same frame to talk about "a Vietnam that knows how to respect its roots and stand together to reach far."

The Tinh Hoa Viet Award is organized annually by Dai Doan Ket Newspaper - the central agency of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, aiming to build a strategic award system in recognizing and spreading the unique cultural and artistic values of Vietnam.

The award structure is divided into 3 main categories:

Category A - Music Essence includes the following awards: Song of the Year; Album of the Year; Musician of the Year; Music Producer of the Year; Singer of the Year; MV of the Year; and Performance of the Year.

Category B – Multi-field artistic quintessence includes the following awards: Literature quintessence; Fine Arts quintessence; Cinema quintessence; Theater quintessence; Preserving cultural and artistic heritage; Creativity quintessence; and Spreading Vietnamese culture.

Category C – The special award is the Dedication Award.

The jury includes: Colonel Hong Thanh Quang - former Editor-in-Chief of Dai Doan Ket Newspaper; People's Artist Vuong Duy Bien; People's Artist Tran Ly Ly; painter Vi Kien Thanh; Dr. Nguyen Dang Khang - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Dai Doan Ket Newspaper; Meritorious Artist Bui Tuan Dung; film critic Le Hong Lam; writer Nguyen Quynh Trang; musician Nguyen Hai Phong; and musician Huy Tuan.
