The Vietnamese women's team had a good start in their journey to defend their SEA Games gold medal after a 7-0 win over Malaysia on the opening day. Therefore, coach Mai Duc Chung was extremely satisfied when his players completed many of their set goals.
“It’s been a long time since we last met Malaysia. When I watched the video, I saw that they have improved a lot. They beat Kazakhstan and Bangladesh, so I was a bit worried. So I reminded my players not to be complacent and to stay focused. I’m very happy that the players did it today.

I arranged the team with a mix of young and experienced players because I wanted the young players to improve. We scored many goals and avoided cards and injuries. All three goals were met. I am very satisfied with what the team has done," coach Mai Duc Chung emphasized.
Despite winning 7-0, coach Mai Duc Chung still hopes his players will do better. He said: "The Vietnamese women's team won big, but I always hope the players score as many goals as possible. We have to compete on goal difference with our opponents in the group, the Philippines and Myanmar."
Meanwhile, Thai Thi Thao, the player who scored a hat-trick in the match, happily said: “In the first match at the SEA Games, we were reminded by the coaching staff to focus highly. I feel happy that the Vietnamese women's team met the set goal. It was the whole team's effort, I was just the last one to shoot and luckily scored.”
