Scientific conference "The Legacy of Trạng Trình Nguyễn Bỉnh Khiêm from a Modern Perspective"
The conference aims to conduct a comprehensive and systematic study and evaluation of the content, ideas, philosophical wisdom, enlightened spirit, art, and immense values in literature, aesthetics, humanities, education , peace ideals, and international influence of the legacy of Trạng Trình Nguyễn Bỉnh Khiêm.
Attending the workshop were Nguyen Huy Binh, Deputy Director in charge of the Institute of Literature - Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; Nguyen Minh Hung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hai Phong city; leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hai Phong; scientists and researchers from institutes and universities; members of the UNESCO campaign committee to honor Trạng Trình Nguyen Binh Khiem on the 450th anniversary of his death (1585 - 2035); and leaders of relevant departments, sectors, and localities.
In his opening remarks at the workshop, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Minh Hung emphasized that this is an important event aimed at identifying, honoring, and promoting the cultural heritage values and contributions of the outstanding figure Nguyen Binh Khiem to national history. This will provide a scientific basis for building a dossier to propose that UNESCO honor Nguyen Binh Khiem on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of his death (1585-2035).
At the conference, city leaders hoped that scientists and experts would focus on systematizing information, discovering and interpreting new aspects of Nguyen Binh Khiem's life, career, political, social, and educational views; clarifying textual issues and the literary, historical, and philosophical nature of his works.

This comprehensive assessment evaluates the ideological system, philosophical wisdom, enlightened spirit, and immense values in literature, aesthetics, humanism, education, peace ideals, and international influence of Nguyen Binh Khiem's legacy. Simultaneously, it affirms the outstanding values and significant contributions of Nguyen Binh Khiem and his legacy to national history, with an impact on many political, cultural, and social fields.
This opens up new directions and important orientations for the research, preservation, and promotion of the heritage values of Trạng Trình Nguyễn Bỉnh Khiêm in the future.
Nguyen Thanh Trung, Director of the Hai Phong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, affirmed that the legacy of Nguyen Binh Khiem is rich in content and diverse in its manifestations, both tangible and intangible, nurturing national cultural identity and guiding sustainable development.

Looking back today, the ideological values of Nguyen Binh Khiem continue to shine brightly in the flow of Vietnamese culture. In the context of integration, where culture becomes a driving force for development, there is an urgent need to preserve and promote cultural values, including the cultural heritage system related to Nguyen Binh Khiem.
Regarding the reception of Nguyen Binh Khiem's legacy in the modern era, discussions focused on research, collection, exhibition, and education of cultural heritage related to the scholar Nguyen Binh Khiem; bringing Nguyen Binh Khiem's works to high school students; preserving the Nguyen Binh Khiem historical and cultural site to enhance its historical and cultural value; establishing a local cultural brand through this prominent figure; and promoting local tourism development.
After more than two months of implementation, the Conference Organizing Committee received 59 papers from scientists, managers, and lecturers from many agencies and units nationwide.
The discussions focused on four main topics: Issues related to the texts of Nguyen Binh Khiem's works; Nguyen Binh Khiem's thought from a modern perspective; The integration of text, history, and philosophy in Nguyen Binh Khiem's works; and the reception of Nguyen Binh Khiem's legacy in the context of contemporary culture.
Trạng Trình Nguyễn Bỉnh Khiêm was born in 1491 and died in 1585. He was a distinguished son of Trung Am village, Vĩnh Lại district (now Nguyễn Bỉnh Khiêm commune, Hải Phòng city). He was one of the outstanding figures of the 16th century, a multi-talented scholar with remarkable contributions in the fields of politics, ideology, education, and literature.
Trạng Trình Nguyễn Bỉnh Khiêm not only left behind a vast treasure trove of Han Nom poetry and prose for posterity, but also a timeless legacy of philosophical thought. He is considered the embodiment of Vietnamese intellect and morality, a person who combined the essence of scholarly learning with folk knowledge, as expressed in his writings, prophecies, teachings, anecdotes, and the cultural and religious life of the people.

Therefore, this affirms the outstanding values and immense contributions of Trạng Trình Nguyễn Bỉnh Khiêm and his legacy to national history, which has an influence on many fields of politics, culture, and society; it also suggests new directions and important orientations for the research, preservation, and promotion of the heritage values of Trạng Trình Nguyễn Bỉnh Khiêm in the future.
He was a great poet of the nation, both in terms of poetic artistry and the content he reflected. His poems accurately reflected the laws of change in nature and society, so later generations regarded them as prophecies, predicting future events hundreds of years in advance.
For these reasons, Nguyen Binh Khiem was highly regarded by his contemporaries and posterity in many aspects such as morality, political talent, and literature. He became known as the "Trang Trinh" (a high-ranking scholar), a prophet whose prophecies were astonishingly accurate, a village guardian deity, and a saint of the Cao Dai religion protecting its followers. All the honors bestowed upon him by the people, officials, the court, the state, and religious beliefs affirm that Nguyen Binh Khiem was a figure of significant influence in national history, a true cultural icon.
