
People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau analyzes stage works and guides training classes
On the morning of December 5, at the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association, the closing ceremony and summary of the 2025 Stage Scriptwriter Training Course took place in a solemn and warm atmosphere.
This marks the end of the 5-day course (December 1 to 5) and is the beginning of a generation of young authors and directors who are expected to contribute to creating a new look for the city's stage in a period of strong transformation.
Nearly 70 students – a multi-generational class
This year's training class attracted nearly 70 students who are authors, directors, and professional actors from major theater units and cultural institutions in Ho Chi Minh City: IDECAF Drama Theater, Ho Chi Minh City Art Center, Truong Hung Minh Art Theater, Small Stage Drama Theater, Thien Dang Theater, Ho Chi Minh City Hat Boi Art Theater... The diversity of art forms from drama, reformed opera, hat boi to experimental theater helps the class become a space for the intersection of experience and creativity, tradition and innovation.

Many young students are exposed to modern scriptwriting methods for the first time; while experienced artists also see the opportunity to refresh their theatrical language.
Course with core subject system
The Training Board of the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association has developed a comprehensive curriculum that accurately reflects the requirements for theater development in the new context. Topics range from basic knowledge about the situation of the country and the world, to specialized professional skills of scriptwriters such as: Current events - strategy: Background creates the foundation for composition. The thematic report "Current situation of the country and the world; thinking, vision, strategic decisions for Vietnam to firmly move forward in the new era" presented by Colonel - Journalist Ton That Quynh Ai provided students with a large amount of updated information about the economy, defense, security, global geopolitical movements and strategic orientation of Vietnam.
This is an important source of intellectual material for authors to create works with intellectual depth, reflecting the breath of the times - something that today's theater really needs; Art - playwriting techniques: Basic but vital lessons for the profession.
In the following lectures, students will be exposed to a series of key topics: Building script ideas in a contemporary context; Structure - composition, conflict and rhythm of the drama; Techniques for building character and character development; Learning about Vietnamese and world theatrical forms...

He also affirmed that the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association will continue to maintain a steady annual training pace, aiming to form a team of young scriptwriters and directors with courage and innovative thinking, capable of meeting the requirements of the cultural industry that the city is prioritizing for development.

New milestone in career journey
Many students shared that the course opened up a new understanding for them about the profession of playwriting: it is not just a story of emotions or personal experiences, but also a combination of current knowledge, strategic thinking and artistic creativity.
For Ho Chi Minh City theater - one of the largest art centers in the country, the formation and training of a new generation of authors is a vital task.
The success of this training course is a welcome sign, showing the efforts of the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association in the strategy of rejuvenating and professionalizing the creative team.
The closing ceremony not only recognized the learning efforts of nearly 70 students, but also marked a new beginning: the beginning of new scripts, ambitious stage projects, the beginning of a career journey with a theoretical foundation, social responsibility and the pulse of the times.
The HCMC stage is in need of a new generation of creatives and this course is an important building block in that foundation. From today’s class, tomorrow’s plays may be born.
