On the afternoon of December 5, Ho Chi Minh City National University held a conference to summarize the virtual filtering work of the Southern group and organize the 2025 capacity assessment exam, and plan for 2026.

Associate Professor - Dr. Tran Cao Vinh talks about the Southern virtual filtering group in the 2025 university entrance exam
At the conference, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Cao Vinh, Vice President of VNU-HCM, commented that 2025 is a very special year when the number of wishes skyrocketed, the diversity of admission methods and technical requirements became increasingly complex. In that context, the Southern virtual filtering group, under the technical coordination of VNU-HCM, stood firm, coordinated smoothly and completed the task excellently with outstanding figures: 87/87 schools fully participated - a very valuable consensus; more than 1.59 million wishes were processed - the largest scale ever; 15 virtual filtering rounds took place smoothly, converging accurate and timely data; the average virtual rate was 172% - a number showing the huge amount of work that the units had to overcome.
Regarding the HCM City National University's capacity assessment exam, in 2025 it will continue to affirm its role as an important pillar in the HCM City National University's enrollment strategy and be an enrollment method trusted and accepted by society.
In terms of expertise, the exam structure has been adjusted to be more suitable with the 2018 General Education Program, enhancing the assessment of thinking ability, analysis, synthesis and problem-solving ability. The scientific thinking section is designed with a new approach, focusing on placing candidates in real-life situations, thereby measuring reasoning ability and encouraging critical and creative thinking.
Regarding digital transformation, VNU-HCM has deployed authenticated electronic exam result certificates along with an online registration and result lookup system. This helps shorten time, reduce paperwork, increase transparency and convenience for both candidates and schools using the results.
The 2025 exam recorded a record scale with more than 152,000 candidates and more than 223,000 registrations at 55 testing sites in 25 provinces/cities across the country. The value and reliability of the exam continued to be consolidated and improved, demonstrated through a stable score range and good differentiation ability.
There are 111 universities using exam results in admissions. In the Ho Chi Minh City National University system alone, this method accounts for about 56.32% of the target, demonstrating the strategic importance of the competency assessment exam in the overall admissions picture.
Orientation for implementation in 2026, VNU-HCM proposed to maintain the Southern group model coordinated by VNU-HCM; virtual filtering training earlier and with the participation of the Department of Education and Training; proposed to upgrade the system and data for virtual filtering simulation practice; VNU-HCM continued to assume the coordination role (appropriate technical - infrastructure).
