Working abroad - Opportunity to increase income

Sending workers to work abroad for a limited period of time is one of the efforts to contribute to increasing people's income, contributing to brightening the poverty reduction picture of Tay Ninh province. Not only creating a source of outstanding income to help many poor and near-poor households stabilize their lives, working abroad also opens up opportunities for workers to access skills, discipline and modern technology, thereby forming a high-quality human resource right in the community.

Stories of families

Looking at the new, somewhat spacious house of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Nhi's family (residing in Cau Doi hamlet, An Luc Long commune), few people would think that her family used to be a near-poor household. The family had little land for production, and at the same time had to raise children for education and care for elderly parents, which made the economy tight and life difficult for many years.

The turning point came when her daughter, after graduating from Long An College, was given the opportunity to go to Japan to work under the program of sending workers to work abroad.

Representatives of Ibaraki province (Japan) visited and worked at Long An College to promote sending workers to work in Japan.

In the early days when her daughter explained her intention, her parents were worried because their daughter was living far from home and had to be independent in a foreign land. However, when they understood that this was an opportunity and also her determination, the family supported her. After three years of working in Japan, Nhi's daughter had accumulated a significant amount of capital and regularly sent money back to support her parents.

With the support of the local government and the couple's efforts in production, family life has gradually improved. Now, the children have all grown up, have stable jobs, the family has built a solid house and her daughter has also returned to Vietnam, continuing to stabilize her life. "Thanks to the days my daughter worked abroad, the family has been able to stabilize as it is now. Before, I always thought that going abroad required money or studying really well, but my daughter helped me change my mind" - Mrs. Nhi shared.

The story of Mrs. Nhi's family is not uncommon in many localities in the province. In Can Duoc commune, Ms. Tran Thi Minh Thu's family also faced difficulties due to her father's early death and little land for production. Thanks to her younger brother working in Japan under a temporary labor program, the family's economy has improved significantly.

After 3 years, her younger brother continued to extend his working term for another 5 years to accumulate capital. During this time, he continued to send money to support his family, helping Ms. Thu to have conditions to stabilize her life and both sisters to take care of their elderly mother. Ms. Thu said: “My family has today thanks to my younger brother’s decision to work abroad. He not only helps the family but also has conditions to accumulate for the future.”

Local efforts

Stories of people escaping poverty thanks to labor export are clear evidence of the effectiveness of the policy of sending workers to work abroad, one of the solutions in the province's poverty reduction program. Accumulated to November 26, 2025, the whole province sent 994 workers to work abroad, of which 651 went to the Japanese market; 244 went to Taiwan, and 99 went to work in other markets.

This is considered a highly effective job creation channel, because it not only opens up outstanding income opportunities for workers but also creates conditions for access to technology and modern labor discipline, thereby improving the quality of human resources.

Income sent back from abroad helps poor households stabilize their economy, reduce spending pressure, save and invest in production, leading to a ripple effect on the community. This is a sustainable approach, because after returning, workers will have capital, skills and a new labor mindset to continue developing their family economy.

The Japanese language class at Long An College creates conditions for students to both learn a profession and learn the language to have more opportunities to work abroad after graduation.

In order for the policy to be effective, over the past time, departments, branches and localities in the province have proactively taken part with many synchronous solutions. In 2025, the Department of Home Affairs coordinated with relevant agencies and enterprises with the function of recruiting foreign workers to organize direct consultations in localities with the participation of nearly 1,000 workers, to provide detailed information on labor markets, recruitment requirements, support policies and career opportunities. Some consultation sessions with the participation of departments, branches and enterprises contributed to assessing, removing difficulties and providing directions to improve the quality of labor resources going abroad, while limiting illegal exit.

At the same time, the Provincial Employment Service Center plays a key role in advising workers who want to work abroad. Many career counseling sessions for middle and high school students help them have early career orientation. The school system, notably Long An College, regularly organizes counseling for students on their orientation to work abroad.

Principal of Long An College Le Quoc Hung said that the school cooperates with a number of foreign enterprises to not only provide consulting and orientation but also organize language classes right at the school in the evening, helping students to learn both a profession and a language. This is a solid foundation for them to be able to work abroad if needed.

In addition to consulting and facilitating, initial capital support for people working abroad is also of interest. The Provincial Social Policy Bank is always ready to facilitate poor and near-poor households to access loans and boldly participate in the program.

It can be affirmed that sending workers to work abroad not only helps many poor and near-poor households escape difficulties but also creates a quality human resource, contributing to promoting local economic development. When policies are implemented synchronously, systematically and with focus, poverty reduction is no longer a story of temporary support but becomes a sustainable process, creating long-term livelihoods for people./.
