Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced that Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank), one of the leading banks in the Philippines, has successfully deployed Amazon Quick Suite to revolutionize the way bank employees across various departments access and analyze data.

As the first bank in the Philippines and among the pioneers in ASEAN to adopt Amazon Quick Suite’s Generative AI (Gen AI) capabilities, UnionBank is empowering bank staff across operations, technology, product development, and customer-facing departments to query data using natural language.

UnionBank is the first bank in the Philippines and also among the pioneers in ASEAN to apply generative AI capabilities.

For UnionBank, transformation means creating an agile mindset, empowering employees, and putting customers at the center to drive innovation that delivers real value. By harnessing the power of data and AI, UnionBank can anticipate needs, deliver personalized, intuitive banking experiences, simplify finances, and expand access for users.

However, to realize its vision of becoming a data-driven organization, UnionBank needed to proactively overcome significant operational challenges. Previously, the bank’s operations staff relied heavily on data and engineering teams to generate reports, build dashboards, and extract insights from the data warehouse. While this model ensured accuracy, it limited flexibility and slowed down decision-making.

UnionBank realized that to remain competitive and serve customers more effectively, it needed to empower more than 200 business employees across various departments to access, analyze, and visualize data on their own through Amazon Quick Suite. This strategic move not only helped optimize operations but also solidified its competitive advantage through data democratization and advanced analytics. As a result, UnionBank was able to accelerate decision-making with greater accuracy, support teams in answering key business questions like “why did the number of new customers decrease this month?” in natural language, detect anomalies like fraudulent behavior, and better understand customer trends.

Deploying Amazon Quick Suite makes data analytics accessible to non-IT staff, delivering transformative results across the organization. It enables business people to mine insights and build dashboards without requiring complex skills or technical know-how. Users can create dashboards, adjust parameters, and get real-time results, significantly reducing their reliance on IT. When optimized, business teams can process data requests up to 5x faster.
