Training to improve capacity in caring for and educating children with disabilities

On December 6 and 7, in Khanh Hoa province, the Department of Mothers and Children, Ministry of Health organized a training course to improve parents' capacity on protecting, caring for, and educating children with disabilities to integrate into the community. Attending the training course were more than 45 officials from the Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities, Poor Patients and Children's Rights; Vietnam Association for the Protection of Children's Rights; Vietnam Association of Parents of Deaf Children and Deaf People; Vietnam Association of Families and Children with Cerebral Palsy; Vietnam Autism Network; Association of Parents of Children with Visual Impairment and Other Disabilities (Down Syndrome, Mental Retardation...) in the provinces of Khanh Hoa, Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Lam Dong, Dong Nai.

At the training course, trainees were updated on how to identify and detect children with disabilities early in the community; the current situation of children with disabilities; the implementation of Decision 1438 of the Prime Minister on supporting children to access protection, care and education services in the community; legal regulations, policies to support children with disabilities and changes according to the two-level local government; the network of services to support children with disabilities...

Dr. Tran Dang Khoa - Deputy Director of the Department of Mothers and Children delivered the opening speech at the training course.

In addition, students shared content related to developing social skills and self-care for children with developmental disorders; skills for children with disabilities to integrate into the community; and discussed the role of associations and parent networks in supporting children with disabilities.

According to the Ministry of Health , in Vietnam there are currently more than 1 million children with disabilities.
