Factories on the continental shelf
Talking to Vietnam Business reporter, Mr. To Minh Duong - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ca Mau province said that immediately after merging the two provinces of Bac Lieu and Ca Mau from July 1, the two-level local government came into operation, the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee urgently issued policies on economic development, in which the energy industry is considered one of the pillars of Ca Mau province in the period of 2025 - 2050, demonstrating strong determination, making the most of the advantages of natural conditions to get rich from renewable energy.

Dozens of wind power projects on land and under the sea have created "wind power fields" with turbines and blades rotating day and night to generate electricity, bringing Ca Mau into the 21st century to become the "capital of green electricity".
From the orientations and visions of the century, along the coastline with a length of more than 310km, in addition to 16 wind power projects have been formed with a capacity of 2,309 MW. Ca Mau continues to implement dozens of wind power projects, with a total capacity of 1,393 MW. "In addition, wind power has been strongly invested in and developed by domestic and foreign enterprises. With natural conditions of hot and humid tropical climate, high solar radiation during the year, this is an invaluable resource for Ca Mau to develop solar power", Mr. To Minh Duong shared.
According to Mr. Duong, Ca Mau Power Company currently manages 2,827 solar power customers with a total capacity of 295,494 MWp. For self-produced and self-consumed solar power, there are currently 217 customers, of which 95 customers have sent notices to the electricity industry with a capacity of 7,165.87 kWp, 114 customers have not sent notices to the electricity industry with a capacity of 4,759.97 kWp.
In addition to wind power and solar power, gas power is also one of the existing potentials of Ca Mau province. The Bac Lieu LNG gas power project with a capacity of 3,200 MW has been approved by the Provincial People's Committee in principle for investment and at the same time approved the investor, assigned to Delta OJJshore Energy Pte Ltd (USA) as the investor.
“Currently, the investor has completed the environmental impact report procedure. Appraisal of the basic design, approval of fire prevention and fighting design. Vinh Hau A port under the project has had its detailed planning approved and has completed maritime agreement procedures. Currently, the project is carrying out site clearance compensation procedures and connection agreement procedures,” Mr. Duong informed.
Removing difficulties for businesses
Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ca Mau province, To Minh Duong, added that in addition to promoting and calling for investors to invest in green electricity in the area, the Provincial Party Committee, the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, together with departments, branches and sectors, support investors in carrying out investment procedures for the Khanh My - Dam Doi, Nam Du - U Minh, and Hoa Mai gas mine exploitation projects to ensure timely operation to serve the gas supply needs of factories in the gas - electricity - fertilizer cluster.
The province also continues to monitor and make recommendations to competent authorities and the Vietnam National Energy Industry Group (PVN) on expanding the gas - electricity - fertilizer complex. At the same time, coordinate and support the PetroVietnam Power Corporation under PVN to develop a plan to implement the next steps for slow-progressing projects in the Southern region to promptly submit to the Prime Minister for priority investment policy on the expansion project of Ca Mau 1 and 2 thermal power plants in the adjusted power plan VIII.

Besides wind power, Ca Mau province also supports investors in carrying out investment procedures for gas exploitation projects.
In addition, the province also accompanies investors in proposing that the Central Government continue to support and remove legal difficulties to speed up the progress of the Bac Lieu LNG gas power plant project with a capacity of 3,200 MW, and the Ca Mau 1 and 2 thermal power plants. Continue to review proposals to adjust energy projects periodically for the national power development plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
Maintain the operating capacity of factories in industrial parks and gas-electricity-fertilizer clusters. Attract investment in off-grid renewable energy projects (wind power, solar power), move towards exporting electricity to neighboring countries, develop the industry of producing Hydrogen gas, Ammonia, etc.
Mr. Duong believes that these are the foundations for Ca Mau to break through in exporting green electricity in the following years. According to Mr. Duong, some people even compared: "If in other cities in the country, exploiting space from the sea, land, and sky creates a smokeless industry that brings profits to the locality, then Ca Mau province uses wind power, humidity, temperature, solar radiation... to create green, clean electricity to export abroad, bringing foreign currency to the province. This is also an inevitable trend of the southernmost land of the Fatherland reaching out to the sea in the 21st century".
