"Who named this river...?"
Today, the name Lam River is synonymous with and frequently mentioned in sweet melodies and poignant poems. This gentle river, tirelessly nourishing the historically significant Lam Hong region day and night, has become a symbol deeply ingrained in the soul of this part of central Vietnam.
The Lam River is formed by two smaller rivers, Nam Non and Nam Mo, located in Xa Luong and Tuong Duong districts. One has reddish-brown water, while the other flows clear blue from its source across the border into Laos . Legend says that originally, these two rivers were just small streams. Through the vicissitudes of change, natural disasters, and the guidance of Mother Nature, the two streams grew into two rivers and merged into one, flowing through the districts of Con Cuong, Do Luong, Yen Thanh, and Hung Nguyen before finally emptying into the sea.
When mentioning Ha Tinh , everyone surely remembers Dong Loc Crossroads, the memorial site of the great poet Nguyen Du, Thien Cam beach, Sot estuary… but if you don't visit Giang Dinh wharf, try cruising on a boat to admire the Lam River, and gaze at Ben Thuy bridge, then it's probably not enough to fully appreciate the beauty of Ha Tinh. Each stretch of the river tells a story, whispering echoes from ancient times of heroic achievements, and hearing them evokes a feeling of pride and deep affection.
One time, traveling upstream along the serene and poetic Lam River, chatting with the people of Ha Tinh in their gentle, soothing voices, and enjoying their witty yet poignant folk songs, one truly understands why the river has become such a source of inspiration for poetry with its sweet melodies. Amidst the gentle sunshine and breeze, the sounds of folk songs awaken the cool, green waters; the affectionate glances exchanged; the soft, smooth taste of wine, a blend of intoxication and sobriety, all captivated by the beauty of nature and the hearts of the people. Peaceful fishing villages appear and disappear behind bamboo groves on the riverbanks; rocky outcrops stand proudly at the river's confluence; small boats glide back and forth… The flow of life on the Lam River is unhurried, vibrant, and peacefully serene in its timeless beauty.

Mr. Tran Quoc Lam, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Song Ngu Son Giang Dinh Company, shared: "Although the Lam River cruise model has only recently started operating, it has received enthusiastic support from the government and people of Nghi Xuan district and Ha Tinh province. Tourists who have participated in the experience have highly appreciated it, and the number of visitors to Giang Dinh Co Do cruises is increasing, especially those from Hanoi."
As a native of Central Vietnam, he wishes to contribute to the promotion of tourism in his province by restoring the Giang Dinh Co Do wharf, a historical site with significant cultural meaning in Ha Tinh. He also hopes to contribute to the restoration, preservation, and development of the values of Co Dam Ca Tru and Nghe Tinh Vi Giam folk songs – two of the country's precious national intangible cultural heritages.
According to plans, the Lam River cruise tour combining spiritual tourism will soon be put into operation. Starting from Giang Dinh wharf and ending at Cui Temple (Ong Hoang Muoi Temple), the distance between the two points is 13km by river, and along the way, tourists will visit two other sites: the Ben Thuy floating bridge complex and the Quang Trung King Temple.
Visiting Ha Tinh and experiencing a cruise on the Lam River will leave a deeper impression of this land of outstanding people and rich history. A new highlight on the Ha Tinh tourism map has been added, and it will surely leave unforgettable memories.
