As a respected figure in Zone 1, Tan Phu Commune, Tan Son District, Mr. Dinh Cong Don has made significant contributions to the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values of ethnic minority communities.
Mr. Dinh Cong Don, of the Muong ethnic group (sitting on the left), is a respected figure in Zone 1, Tan Phu commune, Tan Son district.
Mr. Dinh Cong Don, a member of the Muong ethnic group, always keeps in mind President Ho Chi Minh 's teachings: "Propaganda must be easy to understand, practical, timely, and in the right place, and special attention must be paid to the target audience." This has helped him become an exemplary figure, always at the forefront of propaganda movements and work in his locality.
In 2015, with the trust of the government and the people, he became a respected figure in the community. Since then, Mr. Don's role in communicating policies and development projects has become increasingly important.
Exemplary and pioneering in all movements and activities, in 2023, in the work of mobilizing people to donate land and clear the ground for the construction of the Noi Dong road, Zone 1, Tan Phu commune, with a length of nearly 1km, Mr. Don successfully persuaded 17 households to donate nearly 3400m2 of land. The concrete road has been put into use, contributing to changing the appearance of the residential area.
The section of National Highway 32A that Mr. Don successfully persuaded local residents to donate land for has had its land cleared and is ready for concrete paving in the near future.
In 2024, he continued to persuade 20 households to donate land and clear the site for a 1km inter-village road along National Highway 32A, in Zone 1, Tan Phu Commune, with a total land area of 1.6 hectares (including rice paddies and gardens), which is scheduled for concrete paving in the near future. During the year, Mr. Don also persuaded 30 households to donate land and clear the site for a nearly 2km long rural road in Zone 1, Tan Phu Commune.
Every year, Mr. Don mobilizes the people to contribute their labor and money to build and repair concrete roads in the area, and to purchase additional equipment and cultural facilities. His tireless efforts have contributed to improving the quality of life for the people, changing the appearance of the residential area, and fostering unity within the community.
Beyond infrastructure development, Mr. Dinh Cong Don always prioritizes the work of disseminating information and encouraging people to adopt a cultured lifestyle. Mr. Don stated that one of his important tasks is helping people abandon outdated customs and traditions, especially regarding child marriage and having a third child.
“We have consistently propagated and encouraged people to raise awareness, abandon outdated customs and traditions, and strictly implement the neighborhood's regulations. Previously, child marriage and having a third child were common problems, but thanks to the efforts of the entire community along with the involvement of the local government, this situation has improved significantly,” Mr. Don said.
This is a great achievement in building a new cultural life, pushing back against outdated customs, including child marriage, and helping to protect the rights of children, especially women. In addition, outdated customs in weddings, funerals, festivals, etc., are gradually being eliminated, replaced by simpler, more economical, and more dignified rituals.
Currently, Zone 1 of Tan Phu commune has 148 households with 597 inhabitants. Of these, the Muong ethnic minority accounts for 70%. From a once disadvantaged area, Zone 1 has undergone many changes. The movement to build culturally exemplary families and residential areas is always actively supported by households in the zone; the percentage of culturally exemplary families annually reaches over 90%.
Mr. Don's model of raising free-range chickens has been adopted and learned from by many households in the area, contributing to increased income and improved living standards for the local people.
Besides cultural activities, Mr. Dinh Cong Don also focuses on developing his family's economy . One of the economic models he implements is raising free-range chickens. By raising chickens, he not only provides a reliable food source for his family but also sells them to the market to earn extra income. This model has been adopted by many households in the area, contributing to increased income and improved living standards for the local people.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Chairman of the Tan Phu Commune People's Committee, said: "Mr. Dinh Cong Don has effectively played his role as a respected figure, fostering unity in mobilizing his family, relatives, and neighbors to trust in the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws. Mr. Dinh Cong Don's contributions have helped to transform the appearance of Zone 1 specifically and Tan Phu commune in general."
Mr. Dinh Cong Don's efforts over the past nearly 10 years not only reflect the transformation of a residential area but also demonstrate the strength of unity, solidarity, and the efforts to build a strong community from respected individuals within the ethnic minority community. This contributes to the effective implementation of Sub-project 1 under Project 10 of the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas, giai đoạn 2021-2030 (National Target Program 1719).
