On June 29th, information from the Chi Lang Regional Forest Protection Department indicated that the unit, in coordination with the People's Committee of Chien Thang commune, had handed over a live Javan pangolin, weighing 5.5 kg and in good health, to Cuc Phuong National Park for care, rescue, and release back into its natural environment.

Earlier, on the evening of June 25th, Mr. Ly Van Hai, residing in Ban Thi village, Chien Thang commune, discovered a pangolin crawling into his yard. Recognizing it as an endangered and rare wild animal, Mr. Hai proactively reported it to the local authorities and the forest protection agency for handover.
According to the Chi Lang District Forest Protection Department, the individual was identified as the Javan pangolin ( Manis javanica ), a species belonging to Group IB according to Circular No. 85/2025/TT-BNNMT of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on the management of endangered, rare, and precious species. It is also classified as Critically Endangered in the IUCN Red List and is listed in Appendix I of the CITES Convention, strictly prohibited from exploitation in the wild and international trade for commercial purposes.

The forestry agency advises people that when they discover lost, injured, or in need of rescue, they should promptly notify the local authorities or the nearest forestry agency for proper handling and processing. They should absolutely refrain from hunting, keeping, buying, selling, or transporting endangered, rare, or precious wild animals illegally.
