At the age of 38, Messi continued to astound the football world by scoring a hat-trick to help Argentina defeat Algeria 3-0. This also marked the first time Messi had scored three goals in a single match in his sixth World Cup appearance.

Messi also became the oldest player to score a hat-trick at the World Cup, confirming his status as one of the greatest players in history. His three goals equaled the record of 16 World Cup goals held by legendary Miroslav Klose.
However, behind Messi's brilliance lies the quiet support of his teammate De Paul. Over the years, both at club and national team level, De Paul has made immense contributions to Messi's success.
Returning to Argentina's victory over Algeria, in Messi's opening goal, De Paul delivered what is considered a classic pass. With just one precise through ball from midfield, De Paul eliminated four opposing players simultaneously, creating space for Messi to score with a long-range shot.
The Inter Miami midfielder provided an assist, but it was just as beautiful and important as the goal. Beyond the perfectly placed pass, De Paul truly dominated the midfield.
According to statistics, the 32-year-old player achieved a pass accuracy rate of 92%. He also had 6 successful defensive actions and won 5 out of 8 duels, along with 2 successful tackles.
Messi was the best player of the match, while in second place was none other than De Paul. This performance, along with his consistent form, makes De Paul an irreplaceable link in coach Lionel Scaloni's system.
Interestingly, throughout his playing career and off the field, De Paul has been described as "Messi's bodyguard." The relationship between Messi and De Paul has long transcended the boundaries of ordinary teammates on the pitch.
Both at his current club, Inter Miami (USA), and in major tournaments around the world, De Paul is always seen defending Messi whenever the "number 10" is fouled or provoked by opponents. "If Messi were the captain, I would readily volunteer and fight to win for him," De Paul asserted.
Messi scored a hat-trick, while De Paul dominated midfield, helping Argentina control the game and giving their old friend peace of mind to shine in decisive moments.
The World Cup has only seen one match played for both of them, and there's certainly much more to look forward to, with Messi still playing the role of a big star and De Paul the unsung hero.
