Quang Ngai people

( Quang Ngai Newspaper) - When writing about Te Hanh's poetry, I would like to use his poetry to comment on a characteristic of the soul of Quang Ngai people: "Te Hanh's poetry convinces Quang Ngai people precisely because his poetic soul is extremely pure. It is the soul of a Quang Ngai citizen. For historical, geographical and other reasons, the soul of Quang Ngai people is especially pure. That soul can be intense, can be extreme and sometimes can be subtle, but its most outstanding feature is its simplicity, innocence, and leaning towards inner feelings."

Te Hanh is a great poet, because his soul is in harmony with the soul of Quang Ngai people. Reading his poems, people can clearly see the soul and essence of Quang Ngai people.

After the day of peace , June 1975, after 21 years away from Quang Ngai (when I left my hometown to go to the regrouping, I was only 8 years old), when I returned to my birthplace, suddenly, my heart was moved. My hometown after 21 years of war did not change much, but what made me moved was the affection of my relatives in my hometown, still simple, honest, and rustic like the day I left my hometown for the North. It is the personality, the way of speaking, the simplicity of the people of Quang Ngai that makes up the soul of the homeland.

Then the day my family and I returned to Quang Ngai, at the time of the province's separation in 1989, at first I was quite "shaken" because I had no idea how I would integrate with the Quang Ngai people with whom I lived, worked, and played. But what I was worried about, turned out to make me very happy. The Quang Ngai brothers that I met every day, most of them, were very nice. My nature of liking freedom, with a bit of a "social gangster" quality, made them very approachable. And I was also very approachable and friendly with my brothers, regardless of whether they were officials or civilians.

We work together very easily, and play together very happily. After living in Quang Ngai for decades, I have come to understand Quang Ngai people more and more, through my friends, younger siblings, and nieces and nephews. Perhaps in today's society, the honest, trusting, and lovable way of life of Quang Ngai people, through the people I know or am close to, may not bring them luck. But "Getting used to it makes you lose your manners", they still live like that, treat life like that, and accept risks, if any, with the same mindset, not like a person who has attained enlightenment, but like a person who is used to living with an open heart.

I don’t know if it’s like what people say nowadays: “Open your heart and you will meet the world ”, because the temperament of Quang Ngai people, I know, is not too complicated, not too thoughtful. But often, straightforward, straightforward, even if clever, they are still easy to approach. Of course, “modern Quang Ngai people” now have some differences from “traditional Quang Ngai people”. But I think, the characteristics that make up the soul of Quang Ngai people are still quite deep in the character of young Quang Ngai people today.

Even a person who is a “daughter-in-law of Quang Ngai”, originally from Hue, like my wife, during her lifetime, because she lived in Quang Ngai for 35 years, she almost became a Quang Ngai person. Her personality is still gentle like a Hue person, but simple and sincere like a Quang Ngai person. She knows how to live and think of others, loves her friends, her younger siblings and nieces, but her personality is still upright and kind.

Maybe the spread of Quang Ngai people's mentality is not as deep as that of Northern or Southern people, closer, like Quang Nam people, but it still has "something" that makes people recognize it immediately: That is Quang Ngai people.
